I started blogging since November 2006. So happened, Active Rain is
my first and only lasting platform to date. I was very reluctant to try it at first even though I heard of Active Rain almost 6 months before I signed up. In my mind, blogging is for a bunch of teenagers who openly keep up with their lives on a daily journal called blog. I had enough with talking my teenage sister out of MySpace. I was not going to start one myself - so I thought! I don't remember how I ended up here but in the end, I am here that matters.
That was 2 years ago and how time flies. I cannot imagine what role blogging had taken on for me in my business and in my life. My life is so much fuller today because of all the friends I have made connections with. It is hard to great Realtor(R) friends to reaaly sit together to talk about the highs and lows of this business, but here on Active Rain we can. What I had learnt here on Active Rain in 2 short years is more productive and enlighting than I ever did the first 4 years of my real estate career. It makes me feel smart just by becoming the most read Real Estate Blog platform out there. So, thanks to each of you on Active Rain for helping me better serve my clients today by the contributions you make. So, when you wonder all the hours you spend here on blogging was worth while, you are investing in lives that are forever changed! And those close to my heart, my mentors and my supporters and my subscribers - you know whom you are. I thank each of you.
Some of you know that I originally hailed from Malaysia - a small country in the South East Asia. I came here to the United States as a young 20-year lady, full of energy and full of hope for this new life. I spent the next 2.5 years at the University of Oklahoma and came down to Dallas, TX as fast as I could. Resident of the greater Dallas metroplex for 12 years, I have grown to love this place I live in, hence I put my current season in my life to serve the residents of this metroplex. I choose blogging as my avenue of growing my business.
Through blogging, I found that I am a writer at heart. Nope, I won't let English as my second language stop me from fully expressing myself through my writings. I do my best to articulate my thoughts and sometimes, the messages get sent across. When I was in school, English and writing are one of my weaknesses. But I feel much easier to express myself now that I do not have my English teacher redlining my essays. In deed, I am free to write and I noticed when I write from my heart, I feel alive and real - one of my qualities I want others to know.
Through blogging, I found that I am a teacher at heart. I won't let my short 6 years of real estate experience stop me from sharing what I know and how I could help others here on Active Rain as well as my real estate consumers. I use my victories and my mistakes to educate so that those that read my blogs may be on the look-out. A heart of a teacher does not always have to mean that I only share my good experiences. As Business Week had said it, Failure Breeds Success and the best people embrace their mistakes and learns from them. So, if you are a new blogger, I encourage you to write more. Your style, your topics and your focus will change as you get better. I must say that I am a much better blogger today than I ever was a few months after I started blogging.
Through blogging, I found my voice. Most of you know that I don't write in a formal voice. Perhaps I don't know how to relate that way. I write in a conversational style and I did it unknowingly until I did all the different "styles" of blog writing. Through my blogs, I inject my personality and have gained a large readership because of it. I write when I'm celebrating, and I write when I'm down. Through my blogs, I found the person that I am. Like the roles(s) above I have mentioned and much more. Blogging lets me open up to be the person that I am. Honesty. Sincerity and a Learner of Life and Real Estate.
As you write another blog today, think about what you are trying to achieve here in the 'Rain. You might unexpectedly find something good by surprise. Life is good.
Much to your success.
