Blown Away by Health Insurance

By
Real Estate Agent with Wagner Inc. Real Estate

While I consider myself one to be realistic and concerned about problems in our country, Heath Insurance just slammed me in the face.  For my wife and I and 2 children, we pay a monthly premium of $490.00 for an HMO program.  We're young, healthy, non-smoking adults.  Just yesterday, I received a letter in the mail that our premium will be raised to $1297.93 a month!!!!  This isn't top of the line coverage...this is a basic plan that covers the essentials.

What are we supposed to do??  Starting this morning, I'm picking up the phone to call every health insurance provider I can find to get a different plan, but who can afford this??  If we are young and healthy, what if your a little older and unhealthy with pre-existing conditions?!

Has anyone found a good plan or insurance agent who can be trusted and really knows the system?

Hey, Tyler. I know for a while we used Assurance and they were pretty good. We now use Blue Cross. I wish you all the best and I feel your pain, Jim

Best of luck Tyler.  We need to do something about insurance for REALTORS.

I am fortunate that I am not married yet so my insurance is currently only $200/month.  I use Connecticare, but it might be just based in CT.

Thanks for your comments.  I've been doing a lot of research in the last 2 days and I think it looks like Aetna, at least in the Philadelphia region, has some better priced plans that seem to be more within reason.  Blue Cross offers great coverage, but I couldn't find a plan that suits for less then a $1000.00.  I was discussing it with several fellow REALTORS and like what you said Richard, we need to figure out some way to get a decent discount through NAR.
