From here, north of the 49th Parallel, to Kenya Africa where Barack Obama's extended family still lives, the world celebrates with you!

From my earliest awareness of racial differences and struggle, then through the brave demonstrations, tragedies and hard-won victories of the 50's through 70's and beyond, I helplessy watched and felt the despairing pain of unfairness and brutality. I felt the joy with the advances of change, justice and equality.

NOW IT IS HERE, a result of all that has gone before.

This victory is more than just yours, America. It has been a long time coming - an event that scores big for humanity and human rights, globally.

In Africa they are dancing their joyous dances! Celebrants all over the US danced and partied all night long, too happy to contain themselves. On TV they are seen sobbing, overwhelmed that HOPE HAS ARRIVED!!

I CANNOT HELP BUT TO FEEL THE TOTAL ELATION ALONG WITH YOU - WAHOOO!!!

THANKS FOR THIS! YOU ALL DID SO GREAT!!!!!!

CONGRATULATIONS AMERICANS!!!!!!

Well put.  Normally I vote republican, but it was time for a big change in our country.  The thoght of four more years of the same direction is not a plesant thought. It was time for a change and I hope and pray that Obama can make the change.

We definitely needed a change. I do hope he will help the people in the United States. I am at a point that it needs to be proven to me before I feel our government really has our best intersts at heart.

Not elated, but nervous for the future.  Can Obama change?  For him to bring the change he campaign on, he will have to change from the way he has voted, written and spoke before seeking the office.  We'll see..

As many have said, it ain't gonna be easy!  True, but nothing in life worth moving forward is designed to be easy.  After 26 years of the failed "voodoo" economics, it is time to put the larger society first.  Money never "trickles down" but feces does.  I am more excited about the future of my country than I have been in a long time.

I am looking forward to a no excuse, but busting white house and congress. The republicans had their chance in 94 and over reached and did nothing. Now it is Dems all the way lets see this country change from coast to coast and Continent to Continent with no excuses. They have the power the rights and the money. I expect big things and not more of the same as they say.

Deborah, you just watch us go now........this is the catalyst we have all been waiting for.

the buzz on the 'net is fierce. Obama has a new transition website - change.gov that had so many hits on Wednesday it totally collapsed.  I did get in today and all I can say is  WOW, am I impressed.  He is actually asking for our input. What would we like to see, what do we want changed, how would we do it.  Is that a cool or what?

Thanks for this post, we know the world has been watching and we will eventually get it right.

What makes you think that Obama has what it takes to help this country recover?  To begin with, he is proposing $1trillion in new programs but says he is going to lower deficits.  He can't think of a program that he would cut... except the military... during a war.  Remember the war on terror?  Think that the terrorists are ready to sing campfire songs instead of trying to kill us?

And then there is the economy...  He wants to become more protectionist because it is what the labor unions want... and to raise taxes on the wealthy... because it sounds so fun.  Keep in mind that those were the strategies that Hoover used in response to the recession of 1929... Care to go there again?

I'm nervous because everything that Obama has campaigned on does one or both of two things.  It goes against everything he has previously professed, or it points directly down the path to destruction.

Lane Bailey - REALTOR & Car Guy (Diamond Dwellings Realty)

Hello Lane - I understand and relate to your immediate concerns. Here in BC we've pulled out of several recessive years under bad government, not without much pain in doing so. Beyond the political, this election is significant in a much larger - and I believe, more profound way.

Deborah, what you seem to be missing in the rush to change is that Obama is proposing that we do two very specific things that are very bad ideas economically... raise taxes (especially those taxes on capital gains) and protectionism.  That is the path that took us from a recession to a depression in 1929-1932... and the increased spending and governmental intervention may have actually kept it going until World War II.

So, maybe Obama has it all figured out, he'll do everything to destroy the economy, and bring it back with a war that could come from pulling out of Iraq early.

Change is nice.  I am happy that we have elected the fist black President.  However, that doesn't change the fact that the ideas may very well sink the economy of the entire world.

Hello again Lane. Increasing taxation, among many other difficult strategies are part of the plan that pulled our BC economy out of the toilet. I hope that your new government will have the wisdom to do what is best for you. I understand your political concerns.

Deborah, take a look at Michigan, Ohio and the US.  Michigan and Ohio both tried to raise taxes in their weakening economies... both are now in MUCH worse shape than the rest of the country.  Back in 1930 Herbert Hoover decided that the way to get out of the recession from the stock market crash of 1929 was to enact protectionist legislation...  Didn't work so well.  Following him, Roosevelt raised taxes.  Many economists looking back think that the Great Depression might have been a recession that would have lasted a couple of years had it not been for those two things.

FDR is credited as brining the economy back, but he did no such thing.  Instead, WWII is the only thing that stopped the depression.  All of the make work programs and socialist agenda didn't acctually accomplish anything except to make people happy... poorer, but happy.

Obama apparently doesn't pay enough attention to his history.

The thing that you need to keep in mind as a Canadian is that if our economy dumps more, you aren't going to get away unscathed.  We are too linked together.  When the US gets a cut, everyone needs a band-aid.

Deborah - Thanks for your encouragement and support.  We need to move beyond the loss of our global reputation and find ways to improve our once highly regarded status as a world leader.  This is a giant step forward in so many ways.  It certainly makes me proud.

Lane Bailey - REALTOR & Car Guy (Diamond Dwellings Realty)

Hello Lane - No one likes higher taxes. However it can work with other strategies, as it has here. Once our economy became strong again, the taxes were lowered. It is an excellent idea to be aware of historical patterns, but it doesn't necessarily follow that the same will certainly happen again.

Our countries' ecomonies are linked, yes. However, for example, CDN banking systems have more 'stops' on them that prevent the same dergree of crises that occurred with US real estate.

You have a great percentage of voters who are with you Lane. Still another high percentage are not.

I am for the best outcome in any case.

Blessings!
