You probably know someone with Lyme Disease but they don't even know it!

Many of us in the midwest areas encounter Lyme disease on a daily basis. This past spring/summer, I was treated for Lyme disease 2 times. Because I ams so aware of this disease, I saw my dr. right away. Many are not so fortunate.

Our son has probably been living with Lyme disease for 7 years. After he had problems with his central nervouse system and could not grasp things and lacked coordination to get around, he was many specialists over a span of 2 years. The specialists insisted it was not Lyme diseas since the blood test has ruled that out. Yet, our family knew the symptoms reflected Lyme disease. The medical community refused to listen to him or my own observations. Finally, after sending the blood tests to a lab that specializes in tick borne diseases, against all the drs. opinions, a diagnosis of Lyme disease was confirmed. As a mother, I observed these symptoms and the medical community was in denial.

Now, after years of trying to find an answer, the diagnosis is finally in. It will take years for our son to recover. We do not know to what extent he will recover, but the medical community denied all the signs and symptoms. Now, our family needs to deal with this. A 29 year old who is incapicated due to this disease.

This is something that everyone in the prime areas needs to be made aware of and to insist upon the right medical care. It is an epidemic that is denied by the lack of sophistication of lab tests.

More information to follow.

Lyme will reach epidemic proportions in this country if it is not there right now. It will probably take someone who is high profile to get it and have it be ignored by the medical community and be severely debilitated as a result. It is a difficult problem, insurance companies do not want to pay for it and many if not a majority of doctors are suspicious of anyone claiming to have it.  Since tests may not be difinitive, you almost have to get an antibiotic for another reason and see if you can determine if you are getting a herx reaction with it.

Hi Sue, I am empathizew/ you & your family as I too suffer from this horrid disease. I know the pitfalls of trying to get the correct diagnosis & getting the proper treatment.

I'm glad your son has someone like you to champion his side. I do hope you have a support group near you, if you don't contact me I will try and find one near you.

Bill is correct in his statement above. There have been a few high profile people have gotten it but they were treated quickly and w/ extended treatment.
