I've been getting emails from my "gun totin'" and "tongue talkin'/snake handlin'" buddies talking about how "Real America" voted for McCain/Palin en mass.  Hey, we've always had at least 30% of folks who were generally pissed-off after election day...and probably 5% who felt like the country was going to implode because the other candidate won.  Welcome to democracy, enjoy it, embrace it, and if you want to live someplace where everyone thinks like you...buy an island with a 1-bedroom house on it!

The only folks who are "originals" or non-immigrants are the Native Americans (even they immigrated via the land bridge from Asia--I wonder if Sarah Palin can see the bridge from her back yard?)  So, "Real Americans" in my simple way of thinking are people who are citizens of this country, and whether it is a city, a suburb or a rural area that they live in, it is "Real America."

The photo below shows our country (minus AK and HI) represented by red counties (GOP) and blue counties (D).  The representation on the left seems to show that "most" of Real America voted for McCain Palin.  But the photo on the right, shows counties represented by population.  Sure, we are still a divided nation, but Real America is not quite as Red.  Just some food for thought.

I am glad you pointed out that about immigration. I have seen that so many times "we should kick out all the immigrants!" My answer to that? Ok get out then you are an immigrant. More people are democrats than Republicans and this election proved that. Plus many voted 3rd party which most tend to align with democrats as well. That means real americans are democratic?

Rich----really cool.  You know in your head that the map on the left should look like the one on the right----nice to see it translated this way.

You can't please everybody all the time. Don't worry about the ticked off people, just remember they were dancing in the street for the last eight years. Its the Dem's turn to dance.

Your diagram is a nice visual of how people voted. I say America should be Purple. You know a nice blend of both parties.

By the way I am of Native American descent. The Native Americans welcomed the new people with open arms and helped them to survive their first American winter. If they had not been so friendly would we all be here?? You may remember that is how Thanksgiving started.

:)

My response to "the real America" comment is, would you consider the military personnel from New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago, and Boston not "real Americans"?  Or how about the 3,000+ New Yorkers who lost their lives in the 9/11 attacks? Were they not "real Americans"  That usually ends the debate about "real America" right then and there.
