Do you want 2009 to start off good for you?  Of course you do!  Who wouldn't?  It is important to let your past clients and SOI know that you are still open for business no matter what they see in the news about the real estate market.

I always send a letter in January thanking everyone for helping me to have a highly successful year in 2008 thanks to them sending me their referrals.  I continue with, I'm looking forward to helping them and/or their referrals in 2009, etc.  I also send a similar letter in June basically saying the same thing but changing it for time relevance.  What this does is reminds the recipients that you are still there AND since you keep thanking them for referrals they will think that they need to send you some since others must be.  Keep in mind that people like helping others and sometimes they just need a little reminder.

What do you do to build a referral business?

Keeping in touch is "key".    Sometimes it's good to do it at times that are unexpected -- so much mail appears at holiday times.     Customers can be more focused if they pick up your contact piece at an unexpected moment (in the February blahs, maybe?).

That's why I'll send it in Jan. probably at the end of the month.

Sounds good, but why stop at one per year.  Friends contact each other more often so to be more friendly, why not one every other month or so?

I also send other cards/letters throughout the year.  This one is what I'll send twice per year.

Why wait for January. Everyone else was waiting for the election to be over, so maybe you need to do it in December this year.

Sure why not?  Send it anytime you feel the time is right.

Contact with SOI is the lifeblood of our business. We need to communicate with everyone and let them know that we are still in business and real estate is still a good investment.
