I have to be honest, especially after reading Loreena’s blog recently Finding My Voice Through Blogging, You Can Do it Too, I too never thought of myself as a good writer and English is not my second language. Growing up, I hated to write.  When it came to essays and book reports, I loathed the moment I would have to sit down and put pen to paper or word perfect to the computer screen.  I would spend hours on the couch freaking out about having to write and that sure never helped my writer’s block.  My mom would spend hours helping me get it all down.  But that perfectionist side of me always led to serious procrastination.Blogging

It didn’t seem to get easier for me in College either.  But there was mom (always nice to have someone who believes in you), still by my side helping me think things through so I could express them on paper in a coherent manner.  And the reality I discovered, as I got older and took journalism/marketing courses at Humboldt State University and started writing press releases for KHUM, KSLG and KWPT radio, was that it’s almost impossible to go through life never having to write about anything.

Then came Active Rain and the world of blogging.  I have to admit initially I wasn’t too sure I would be able to clearly get my point across to all of you.  But I started blogging and my first few blogs weren’t that great…ok, but not great.  And after a while what I found was as I wrote each new blog, I was able to think a little bit more clearly and express my thoughts in a coherent and (surprising to me) interesting way.

And now, I not only enjoy writing, I truly look forward to writing and sharing my stories with all of you.  So thank you Active Rain, (and all who have supported my blogging efforts by leaving a comment from time to time), for giving me a vehicle to share my experiences and my knowledge, to give me a place to improve on my communication skills and allowing me to shine through one blog at a time.

So if this story sounds familiar…practice may not always make perfect, but it does contribute to noticeable improvement and achievement.  So don’t worry about how perfect of a writer/blogger you need to be.  Just think about what you’re going to write about next and post it.

Jessica - I've never been a good writer, either.  I'm still not good at it, but I'm improving a little...  :)

Consistently blogging definitely helps improve writing skills.  I think another difficult part when starting out is finding your blogging voice.  I enjoy reading your blogs and think you are a great writer!

Shoot when I get home I kick off the shoes, put something in the micro, grab my laptop and start firing away. I have such an active life as in active rain.

Jessica- I think blogging is a great way to become a better writer. It teaches you to focus, appeal to your audience and choose your words carefully. Good luck with the rest of your blogging!

Hi Jessica, you'd never know from reading your blog that you had problems writing.  I'm just starting to blog and have yet to put toether more than a couple hundred words, but it does get easier the more blog posts that I write.

My daughter is attending college at College of the Redwoods and then HSU next year.  I'll let you know if I hear about any real estate leads in your area!
Take Care,
Nancy

Hi Jess-my problem is whenever I do come up with something I think is original, its  like another Rainer must have had the same dream I did-it seems to end up in black & white before I can get to it. Whats up with that? LOL

Anonymous - I think the more we do something, writing included, we always get better.

Debi -  Hey, I think you do just fine.  I like your writing.  We may not be Pulitzer prized authors, but we're obviously speaking and reaching out to others who appreciate what we have to say - I think that's pretty cool.

Thanks Patricia! - It takes a while to found your voice.  But it's a great feeling when you know you got it.  Now if I could just translate this success into some great song lyrics I'd be rocking (I'm a musician too).

Joyce - Isn't it great!  I love my life in the rain too.  Although I take breaks from time to time - too much staring at computer screen time makes me a little "tired and wired".  Not always a great combination LOL.

Ilyce - (What a cool name by the way - how do you prounounce it?) - You are so right and it actually helps you communicate verbally as well.  I'm finding I'm able to explain situations to my clients in a clearer more decisive way (still working on the decisive part - but I've noticed improvement).

Nancy - Thanks - Yeah I actually struggled when I was younger - but I think a lot of it has to do with confidence and believing you can do something great!  Same goes for us here on the rain or even in real estate - it's more about confidence.  Keep up the good work and it will get easier and I'm sure you'll find you have more to say as you go through life (real estate and personal).  There's always something to right about - A little advice.  If you get some great idea to write about but you aren't ready to sit down and type it all out on Word....Write a brief synopsis of your idea so when you are ready to write about it - you will be able to jog your memory.  By the way...Thanks for the real estate tips in the future!

Lisa - That's never fun.  Ya know what - I don't worry about that and sometimes you can write a similar localism subject specific to your area.  Or if you want to be original - read that blog and then take a different direction or spin with it and refer to the blogger who inspired your "blog with a twist"  :)

Lourdes - Yeah thanks for stopping by again - Thanks for the Kudos! :)

Debi - That's why I love AR so much, especially when I get to build great relationships and get to know people like you even better (I guess I'm going to have to schedule a trip at some point to me you in person too.  And you're always welcome to come and visit me in Humboldt - We're a great destination spot :)

Girl, thanks so much for the mentioned. You are making me all the time I take to write was worthwhile to spur another writer in you. I totally know where you are coming from. And like you, I believe when you write from the heart, nothing can stop you and me. Good job, girl.
