Learning to Roll With It

Learning to ride a

A few weeks ago, my wife (Barb) above and I were invited to Spicer Village (a new development near downtown Akron University) to tour the property, and to learn to ride these upright rolling machines they call "Segways".  It was a very cool experience, and since neither one of us had ever been on one before, it was definitely a learning curve (or should I say leaning curve?) Mr Mike Wiant (also above) who is the sales executive, and tour director, was very patient with teaching us how to roll around the parking lot.

Now that we have had an initial lesson, I think we are kind of hooked. We found another Segway tour in a National Park online, and are now going to go on that as well. these machines cost around 5k each, so I don't think I'll be buying my own, but it is really fun to ride, once you get your SEG LEGS.

If you get the opportunity, these things are worth checking out for yourself.

Hi Kevin that Seg Legs looks lika a lot of fun. How fast do they go, and  can one jump things with it. What happens if one brakes all of a sudden, will one kiss the pavement face front. Hey, just asking.

I guess they can go about 25 mph, if you really know what you are doing on one. I don't think I will ever go that fast on one personally. They do seem amazingly stable though.

That would be great for inspecting a warehouse over 100,000 sq ft.  I've often stood at one end of a warehouse and looked to the other following gas lines, etc. thinking about golf carts.

Hi Kevin, Segways are really cool. We have a couple people around here that ride them to work. The problem, one guy cuts through our parking lot at a pretty good clip. I am just praying that he doesn't meet up with a car on the other side of the building. God bless,

We rode segways on our last cruise.  I took me a while to get the hang of it.  My husband was able to ride right away with no issues and thought I was crazy because it took me longer to learn.

It does take a bit of balance, and a little practice, especially if you want to zip around at a fast pace.

We have segway patrols at the malls here. It's kind of funny to be at the mall at 8:00 when they all come out of their meeting, hope on their segways, and go zooming away to all corners of the mall.
