One of Tucson's finest in fine regalia.Raytheon Fire Dep't is represented by Firebucks ChiliIt started at 10:00 this morning, and is still going strong as I write this post.

The Annual Chili Cookoff brings Fire Departments from Greater Tucson together annually to vie for the best chili, the best booth, and who knows what else?  It was a party, and we got there at 3:00 p.m. and only stayed until 5:00.  It won't end until 10:00 tonight!

The Tucson Firefighters' Adopt-A-Family program takes center stage each year as fire fighters and their families come together to raise money.

I'm sure we didn't get them all, as more than 20 fire departments cover greater Tucson and Pima County, but I had a three ounce cup of chili from ten or twelve representative fire halls:

  • Tucson Fire Fighters--several fire houses had entries.
  • Raytheon Fire Fighters
  • Drexel Heights Fire Fighters
  • Northwest Fire Fighters
  • Rural Metro Fire Fighters

The Hilbily Chili Booth manned by the firefighters and their families from Firehall 16-BMy favorite?  The booth manned by the B shift of Fire House 16 (B shift) made my favorite chili.  It wasn't too thick, didn't have too many beans, and the level of !hot! matched the energy of the folks you see there to the left.

Only in Tucson, Arizona!Notice the Javelina in the top left of the photo.

He deserves a closeup.

The ladies didn't say whether he was included in the recipe, and I didn't ask.

I love chili cookoffs they are so much fun and you never know what you will find.  It sounds like you had a fun time.

Mike -- Once again the chili cookoff was a huge success. There was fun for all ages. My kids loved the inflatable jousting where they could fight with one another in a safe and controlled manner. There was plenty of great chili to go around depending on your taste buds. Oh and by the way I am sure that the Javelina was part of that recipe along with some rattle snake mixed in for added flavor.

The thing to remember is that money raised goes to help with the Tucson Firefighters Adopt-A-Family program this holiday season. Thanks for attending....
