W0W - Day 3 and oh what a feeling . . . I'm dancing on the ceiling! After a busy day showing very bad low income apartment buildings, I was able to end the day on a high. I wasn't looking forward to these showings but my client was wanting to buy this type of building so off we went. I was absolutely disgusted with how some people choose to live. I'm convinced that if they were living in the penthouse in Trump Tower they would still have kept filthy dirty apartments. Please don't get me wrong, I do not believe they were living in squalor because they were down on their luck. Some of the tenants had very few possessions but what they had was clean and in good repair. You could see they had respect for themselves and for their surroundings. That maybe this was just a temporary set-back? But others, OMG. I've never seen such filth and the smell . . . no excuse would be acceptable for allowing yourself to live like that.
On the other hand, this one guy had a mattress on the floor, one previously enjoyed tv table/tray with a lamp and no shade. Just the bare bulb. That was all he had in this one room apartment. He told me he was saving up to buy a 'curly bulb'. That this new bulb will save energy. I didn't know what to say.
I finished with my client and decided to hit the grocery store to get some food. As I was parking the car I realized that I couldn't get thru Day 3 without buying 5 Thank You notecards and putting them to immediate use. I wrote on the outside of the envelope "Free Money Inside" . On the inside of the note I wrote "If you need this $10 please take it and enjoy. If you don't need the cash, please add more to it and pay it forward."
I took the 5 cards and envelopes into the grocery store and put one on the bulletin board beneath an ad for someone looking to clean homes for cash. Another was taped to a box of diapers with another attached to babyfood. Next I went to the denture cleaning section and taped one there. The final one went over in the petfood aisle.
My hope and prayer is that someone who is in true need will find them, with far more than $10 in them, and that it will make their day!
I'm excited about Day 4 tomorrow - stay tuned
Susan -- you are one fun and creative lady -- I love hearing about your giving ways!
