"Comments Have Been Disabled By The Author" ...Really?

I'm not perfect and I've got a lot to learn when it comes to leveraging Active Rain for all of its potential. But I must say that I am confused every time I see a blog posted with the bold black type at the bottom of the blog reading "Comments have been disabled by the author".

I mean, isn't this whole Active Rain thing called "social networking"? In other words, multiple people with mutual interests interacting with each other and learning from each other and helping each other.

How could this wonderful, electronic, virtual discourse possibly occur if we all "disabled comments"?

Uhhh, I don't get it!

Come on Active Rain colleagues who disable comments...admit to yourself that a one-way conversation while looking at a computer screen can be rather "anti-social" and quite boring!

This came up a little while before and there were actually some good reasons when disabling comments were appropriate. For the most part, interaction on a "social networking" site should always preferred.

Sometimes authors disable comments on a controversial post-maybe they only want their opinion aired/viewed. Who knows?

Disabling comments is kind of counter productive to the idea of social networking, but they must have a good reason.
