In real estate blogging, a frequent topic of discussion when it comes to search engine results is "the long tail." What this refers to is all of the secondary niche-type terms that may lead visitors to your site.
For example, while most agents might target the popular phrase "Las Vegas real estate", I could get great results for hyperlocal terms such as "Ridgebrook", "The Arbors", and "Summerlin Centre" which are all part of the Summerlin master-planned community in Las Vegas. True, less people would be searching for those hyperlocal terms, but I would also have very little competition.
In "Sizing Up The Long Tail of Search", Dustin Woodard shares his research on the long tail. At one point he says "if search were represented by a tiny lizard with a one-inch head, the tail of that lizard would stretch for 221 miles." That's a lot of potential hyperlocal topics!
