I know where most of the free wireless spots are in my town, and use their services regularly: Dunkin Donuts in Pottsville! Maroons Sports Bar in Pottsville.... we don't have many but I regularly go in with my laptop for a cup of coffee or lunch and catch up on emails.

I also have a PDA for emails. The other day I was sitting outside a client's home, as I was early for an appointment and I checked my PDA. No emails. Then I heard my laptop making noise--the NEW MAIL chime. It was in my bag in the back seat! Downloading my emails!

I had left it in hibernate mode and my outlook was still open. Obviously someone in the neighborhood had an unsecured wireless network!

THis can be dangerous. This means anyone can sit outside of that person's house and use their wireless signal, and perhaps worse! I'm a minor geek--not a big time computer expert--but I do know having your network open to the public exposes your computers to outsiders. Be careful!
