As a Realtor I commonly find myself being asked this one question that I know alot of you have been asked lately. "Is the market as bad as they say?" As a Realtor how would you answer that?
I was asked this question just two days ago by the cashier at Walmart. Isn't it amazing at how someone is surprised when they don't hear the answer they expected? So there she stood, just anticipating my answer to be.. "Yes, the market is not only as bad as they say, but worse!" I sensed that was the answer she expected and I was not about to give in to her negative train of thought, so I smiled kindly and here was my response. "The market is what we make it to be! Houses are still being sold everyday, there will always be a need to sell a house, whether it to be a job change, a growing family, or just personal reasons that warrant a change in address." Then I proceded to tell her how my office was up this year over last years sales, and how I currently have several transactions pending. The nice lady smiled back at me and she said... "You are right! If we assume it is bad and we go around spreading the word about how bad it is, then everyone will believe it is bad and no one will buy or sale a house!" I left the lady not long after and on my way home I got to thinking.... If you want success in life and success in your career and the ability to make a living in the real estate field with todays economy, you need to get out there, spread the word, and help me convince the consumers that every market is different, and we can still sale houses or help them find their dream home! Realtors...I'm calling you, Get out there, stop being negative, put on your smile and greet people and tell them that we are still in the business, we are still making money, and we are going to continue to do so. All this gloom about the housing industry isn't killing us! We are killing ourselves by not working and by accepting "the down market" status.
