I've had it and it was delicious.   When I heard how to make it I could not believe it could be so simple.  So simple AND taste so good!  Unbelievable.

Well, I'm here to say that it really IS that easy to make :)

Have you ever heard of a Coca-Cola Cake?

This is what you need/do.

  • One box of chocolate cake mix. (any brand)                             choc cake mis

  • One can of DIET coca-cola. (I used the real stuff, but my guess is that the other brands will work just the same)

                                         can of diet coke

  • Preheat the oven to whatever it says on the box of cake mix.

  • Prepare your cake pan as usual.

  • Empty the cake mix into a large bowl  - and add the can of diet coke.

YOU DO NOT ADD THE EGGS / WATER / OIL....   ONLY ADD THE CAN OF SODA!

  • Mix well.  (I used my beaters as usual, just not quite as long)

                                                                                 mix the cake

  • Spread batter into prepared pan.  (batter is a little bit thicker than usual - don't worry!)

  • Bake according to package directions depending on what size pan you are using :)

                                                            choc cake

Bakes up nice and moist - and delicious.    I did not put any frosting on mine - but you can use your favorite frosting recipe if you want!

This is definitely a healthier option than the way a box mix is traditionally prepared.

JUST THINK OF THE DIFFERENT WAYS YOU COULD MAKE IT!!

White/Yellow cake mix (or any other flavor where the batter is light in color)-  use diet sprite or diet 7-up!

How about Diet Dr Pepper with Chocolate Cake Mix -   yummm

Enjoy!

UPDATE -  HERE IS THE FROSTING RECIPE:

This is what you need/do:

2 Tablespoons Butter,  1 box powdered sugar, 2 Tablespoons Cocoa, 6 Tablespoons Coca-Cola

  • Combine butter - cocoa and Coca-cola in saucepan and heat to boiling.
  • Pour over sugar in a bowl and mix well.   (add 1 cup chopped pecans now if you want)
  • FROST THE CAKE WHILE IT IT STILL WARM :)

If you are thinking of moving South - give me a call :)

Kara, I do love Coke cake. My mom-in-law use to make it by scratch and it is yummy. I had never thought about using a box and thank you for that hint! This sounds great and I WILL be trying it.

Thanks a bunch,

Later in the rain~Deb

I have never heard of this.  I hate baking cakes because of all the little ingredients it takes.  Cake mix and coke sounds easy enough.  I'll be trying it!

Wow - I never would have guessed that this chocolate cake recipe would get so many comments!  :)

It is half-time of the Giants/Eagles game so - in the interest of time -  I will just try to comment back to everyone at once.   (remember, I said try, lol)

Here goes!:

So easy.... well,  need I say more, lol                      caveman from geico insurance

It tastes like chocolate cake - moist delicious chocolately chocolate cake!! It doesn't taste like coca-cola at all, lol.  But I'm guessing that the dr. pepper might have a hint of cherry flavor.  And for sure diet sprite/7-up would work, too.

I do have the recipe for the frosting (it is down in the car, but I will add it to my post tomorrow....I did have to write that down --but I didn't have to write down the 'recipe' for the cake, lol)

I used 'diet' coke because that is what I was told, so I really don't know what the difference would be is y'all wanted to use 'regular' coke.

Silvia - feel free to borrow this for your newsletter!  (watch for my update with the frosting recipe - - that isn't as easy as the cake unfortunately)  feel free to mention my name/location  - maybe we can get some referrals going!!

I don't know what the 'magic' is with the soda - but yes, that is all that you add to the mix - and it is awesome!    (if you have a larger bottle on  hand--- just measure out 12 oz.)

This would be great to take anytime you have to bring a dessert - or a birthday at the office :)

Also a great recipe for the young bakers in our lives.

Cake after Taylor Ham sounds good to me, too, Jim :)

How about a Jack and Coke cake?  I like your ingredient of Classic Coke.  I just don't have the taste for diet drinks.
