Lame duck...our US system until 1/20/09...

I don't know about the rest of you, however, I'm exhausted...really 2 years of campaigning, and America has decided on the NEXT US President.

While all of you know I'm a true and tried Republican, we now have a new Democrat President-elect

The Economy is distressed, the stock market is close to crashing, the "power's that be" are now calling the market...a Recession.

SO, with the way the US works, even if President-elect Obama has his projected idea's of how to help the Economy, we still have to wait until next January 20, 2009 for any aide...after all President Bush is a lame-duck...nothing that he would even attempt to do to help us...wouldn't get passed by our government.

President-elect Obama's speech two day's ago was...to say the least - EVASIVE...yes, he is not yet the President of the USA, however, if he is so wonderful, and has great ideas...Why can't he work with President Bush to help us out?

The USA is suffering...

President-elect Obama has chosen a Chief of Staff...but no other staff members have been publicly announced. I'm sure with his confidence in winning this election that he had to have people in mind to serve with him.  Why is this a secret, and why is it going to take him a few more week's to let us know who he is appointing to his staff?  The longer it takes, the more it drags down the Economy and the more Americans are going to loose faith in the system...then again...lots of people voted for this guy.

If President-elect Obama wants to unite and have cooperation between the Democratic and Republican party, why isn't he having meetings with President Bush to try and help the Americans, the USA to restructure this debacle that has occurred in the USA?

Why do we have to wait, now less than 120 days for a cure for the infection that has overwhelmed the United States?

Why is this virus/bacteria/infection an issue that can wait until 1/20/09? I think the Economy needs addressed immediatly...The banks we given an out, the auto industry needs help...afterall...the mess trickles down from the auto industry to the car dealerships...not saying what should be done about this, but this is seriously a mess.

Why cannot the power's that be work together to unite America and resolve this what has become an International serious problem?

Seems the whole globe is in recession.  I think it's our debt and spending like there is no tomorrow that got us into this rut.  I also don't think the new administration will cut spending either.

John,

I don't either.  I don't even think the new administration has a clue how to fix it.  Our recession is causing GLOBAL recession...and until the parties start working together to fix this mess...the world will continue to suffer.  JMHO...and thank you for posting.

Why won't they work together? Ego's. All politicians - from both sides -are more concerned with their agendas, legacies, political positions, and of course power - than they are with actually serving the needs of their constituents.

JIM,

Yes I agree...HOWEVER, if they were real estate agents, mortgage brokers, appraisers, inspectors, car dealorships, car builders, and the list goes on...who are suffering in this Recession, and they really gave a s__t about Americans, they would find a way to do it...which makes me write what I did above. Self-centered individuals with themselves in mind...

Take away:  Michelle is shopping for private schools for the girls....gee whize, sorry you have the money for that difficult task,,, how about all the people suffering in this Economy? I don't want to hear that...How about home schooling Michelle...would save the secret service a bundle.

Karen, did you ever stop and wonder if just maybe you have the question backwards???  Perhaps you should be publicly questioning Why won't Bush work with President-elect Obama.  Maybe it's Bush who is protecting his legacy and does not want to be seen in the last hours of his presidency turning to his overwhelmingly elected Democratic successor for help in solving the country's economic issues.  It would be blatant interference for Obama to interject himself into Bush's management of the country's affairs without invitation before he is innaugurated.  Like it or not, Bush still is the sitting president and he could certainly publicly call on Barack Obama to help, but he hasn't, has he?  As for cabinet appointments, I am sure he has a short list and I am sure that he has extended invitations... but did you ever consider that the details of their acceptance may not be final and he would take a lot of flack for publicly announcing cabinet members who have not agreed to serve yet?  He has been President-elect for less than a week... in a non-bureaucratic organization, employment agreements take longer than that to finalize... can you imagine what it is like the highly bureaucratic federal government?  Let's be reasonable, fewer than 5 days after the election your criticisms are simply unfair.

STEVE,

I DIDN'T BLAME EITHER ONE HERE...READ THE WHOLE POST!  I am asking why both sides, with Obama's people in place, they cannot find a way to try and work together.

Don't give me that crap..."Let's be reasonable, fewer than 5 days after the election your criticisms are simply unfair."  My daughter and I came back from the beach Friday by 2:30 pm to see what his comments would be after his meeting with 17 qualified advisors...only to be disappointed with his evasiveness.  After all he said, He wasn't going to be President until 1/20/09.  He never said or blamed the current sitting President as not willing to work with him.  I didn't say that discussion occurred either.

We were waiting for something to look forward to, what we heard, was again disappointing.

You are so over the edge with your comments. Your guy won...so, tell me...how is he going to help us...I hope you know, because he hasn't given us any concrete to sit on.

Karen, I did read the whole post.

You state "If President-elect Obama wants to unite and have cooperation between the Democratic and Republican party, why isn't he having meetings with President Bush to try and help the Americans, the USA to restructure this debacle that has occurred in the USA?"  Is that really your idea of an unbiased question? Where is your balancing question about if Bush is really trying to solve the economic matters then why hasn't HE reached out to Obama for assistance?  You see, you say in your response that you are asking why both sides cannot find a way to work together but most of your questions place blame or responsibility on President-elect Obama when the reality is that protocol requires George Bush to ask for Obama's assistance and he has not done that.

Karen, it's perfectly fine to be upset with the state of our country's economy, I certainly am.  And it's perfectly understandable to hold firmly to your party's positions, but attacking any president-elect as being ineffective or uncaring after fewer than 5 days and before he is in office is unfair.  However, being ineffective after 8 years in office is another story!

As for your PERSONAL attack on me in the final line of your response, I will simply say that my statements were limited to the opinions you posted publicly for comment.  Your final comment was about me as a PERSON and was uncalled for.

Steve,

OK, you know you and I don't agree about politics...then that is what makes conversation.  I removed my last remark from my comment.

HOWEVER, President Bush welcomed President-elect Obama to the White House, Laura Bush again welcomed his wife.

I am not attacking President-elect Obama.  I am just saying that it would be great if they could get together and figure this out, the sooner the better...

Paul... thank you for your comment.  It's most appreciated and I am always glad that on ActiveRain I can count on others with similar views to stand with and support me.

As Karen pointed out, she and I have a history of healthy political disagreement.  It can get passionate on both sides and when it does we happily apologize to each other if we cross a line and the other happily forgives.  She's a nice person and an excellent professional.  We don't always agree on politics but I respect the strength of her beliefs.

Hey Karen, I think as Obama gets debriefed on the classified aspects of things he may change his tune on some issues. I just hope he remembers what he said about us not being just red and blue states but we are the United States and proves it by appointing a mix of people from both parties. We are told he is a unifier... time will tell if this is true.

Teresa,

Ummm...for lack of getting political as I'm going to bed, Obama said a lot of things, which I personally don't thing he will ever be able to facilitate. Unifier...yep, that's exactly what he wanted you to think.  That's why he won. We will see.

Karen, That's exactly what he wanted people to think and the majority of them did but I was in the minority. I think Jim has the answer to your question, 'egos' and the left seems to have the bigger ones. You know as well as I do that Obama wants Bush to do somethings now and if those things sour he will pass the blame onto Bush. Trust me I am very concerned about the change coming I have a 12 year old to think about.
