EXIT Realty Corp. International CEO & Founder, Steve Morris, announced recently that he expects the real estate market to begin to turn around in the second quarter of 2009. With this in mind, EXIT asked some of its key regional leaders, "With the bottom of the real estate market being formally announced by the end of the 2nd quarter of 2009, what 3 strategies would you give both a broker and a sales representative to prepare accordingly?"
According to Sean Harrington, Regional Owner of EXIT Realty Rhode Island, the key to this question is the idea that the bottom has been formally announced and is widely accepted. "Hopefully the media will announce the bottom and subsequent recovery as loudly as they have the fall," stated Harrington in a presentation at EXIT Realty's 10th Annual Convention held at the Gaylord Opryland Resort & Convention Center in Nashville, TN.
Harrington's three strategies are:
1. Avoid negativity, conquer fear, think positively and be courageous. "I think that it is absolutely essential for those of us who have come this far not to give in to negativity and fear so close to the market bottoming out and turning the corner," he said.
2. Announce the bottom and make it part of your business plan. "Take this opportunity to give advice to as many people as you can! You can't shout it loud enough. The timing is great - investing in our product makes all the sense in the world...buy it now and buy it low."
3. Prepare to make hay, stay uncomfortable, and GROW! Put systems in place for the recovery. Consider what tools you should be implementing now and refining for future use. "Question yourself about where our business is going."
"Everybody who chooses to grow experiences discomfort but the alternative of not living fully is an existence too difficult to even contemplate," he said. "There is genius in boldness, very much so... I have seen numerous examples of this since joining EXIT." Harrington concluded by stating, "This market, in its recovery in 2009, offers a tremendous opportunity to take your real estate career to the next level, whether you're a broker or a sales representative. I, for one, will not become complacent and miss the opportunity."
