Veteran's Day was a day our family was always so proud of. It's was my father's day. When he proudly displayed himself as the man who went to war against the Germans in World War Two.
My Dad had a three time Purple Heart. He was injured three times in the war and the last time, was sent home to die.
Seems one night my Mom had a nightmare and woke up screaming about my Dad. So my Grandmother was told my Mom to circle the date and to write down what she remembered, which she did.
Finally, she got word, my Dad was injured and in a Hospital and he wasn't doing all that well. They stated that they did as much as they could for him and they were sending him Stateside for his remaining time.

My Mom told me later in life, that when he finally came back, she asked him how he was shot and he said, a sniper was up on the roof, he was shot, spun around and fell down. My mother has gasped, for that was exactly what she saw in her dream so many months ago.
My dad, was shot in his chest, missing his heart by a fraction of an inch, going through his lung and the bullet shattered his shoulder blade, leaving a gaping hole that would not heal.
He went to Walter Reed Hospital, where the doctors told my mother there was little hope that he would make it through this. My Dad overheard this and told my mother, he was not a quitter. He would fight for his life. Only the good Lord upstairs could tell him when he was going to die, not some doctor.
My dad, knew he needed to develop his lung again and started blowing balloons up. Every hospital room was overflowing with balloons and every day my Dad's lungs grew stronger and stronger.
And he Walter Reed Hospital to the amazement of many doctors and nurses and came home. If he hadn't I wouldn't be here today.

Thank you to all the men and woman who gave of themselves to fight for our freedom. I am so proud of you all. And a special thanks to those who lost their lives while defending mine.
All pictures were taken from a family album. The gentleman on the right in the above picture, is my Uncle who was a photographer in the war.
