Hey Everyone:

Producing results in your real estate business is something that everyone wants to do - the question is, how do you not get into the trap of the daily grind to actually produce the results.  I find that as soon as I open my computer I am in email hell or chat hell wherein people can email me and I actually email them immediately back.  I could get stuff done, but only at night after all other humans were in bed.  That life started to really rot my brain.  Now, I have found a secret that is producing better results.

I have been using a new technique that is really producing some results for me.  It is called the 50-20 rule and it means that you do nothing but focus on what you are doing for 50 minutes with no interruptions from email, phone or people for a whole 50 minutes.  Then, after you have completed that time, you can answer emails, phone calls etc...

I recently heard and investigated that multi-tasking lowers your I.Q.  I wondered why I felt dumber.  But, it is true.  We now have so many people tugging at us that it is hard to concentrate.  So, focusing on one task at a time makes sense.

How do you know what to focus on?  Simple, take 50 minutes and get the top 100 thoughts that you have on paper.  Then, spend the next 50 minute segment doing just one thing that is on your list.  Soon, you will feel a feeling of accomplishment and everything is better.  You are making progress.

What do you think?

This is the best business but....

when you are slow, you work hard to get busy, when you are busy don't forget to do the things that got you busy or you'll get slow again.

Before I start my work day I decide what MUST be done today so when I arrive at work I can focus on one item at a time until all MUST items are completed.  Between each item I take a short break from myself.  Pour a coffee, make a call, etc.

Rhonda. I make up a list of the things that I need to get done today. I start with the easy ones. Then I go to the things that I don't like to do. Then I end up with good ones. If you don't get them all done, make sure that they are on your list for the next day to get done first. Thanks, Royal..

Unfortunately, I have allowed myself to get very complacent & probably a bit whiney.  I have recognized this but haven't figured out a way to work out of it.  Perhaps your 50/20 rule will help me too.  Thanks for sharing!

I think it's very valuable advice, and thanks for sharing this idea.    We are pulled in too many directions, and it is true that we succumb to numbness when we're unable to focus.    The "machines" can do all this multitasking just fine, but the creativity that is the province of humans suffers when we become the machines.    I'm putting your 50/20 rule into effect, today.

I was surprised to see that multi-tasking lowers your IQ.  I guess I had better focus on one task at at time.  Thanks for the information.

I'm a big list maker also.  I try to do the things I don't like to do first then the other things I like after that.  I don't think I  could go 50 minutes without taking a phone call unless I'm in a meeting.  Immediate response is very important to me.  I want my clients and customers to know that they can reach me most of the time within 10 - 15 minutes if not right away.  Thanks for sharing.

Take care.

this is good stuff... i heard/read/saw (i dont' remember) about employees actually performing better and more efficiently when they #1 did not multi-task and #2 took breaks when they felt like it... i came from the restaurant industry where it was normal and expected to master multitasking... but i'm finding it's much less stressful and more effective in this career to stay focused on one goal at a time... thank you for this post, i'd give you kudos if i could
