Today is the 233 birthday of the United States Marine Corps!

The smallest of the military services, and the least understood, the Marines exemplify service to God and Country. Traditionally first to fight, the Marines protect our sailors, our embassies, our very way of life, and it's said the streets of Heaven.

There is no greater patriot, no greater symbol of all that's good and great with America than the men and women of the United States Marines!

I'm honored to speak from first hand knowledge.

 Semper Fi!

Bill - happy birthday, I have nothing but the greatest respect for marines and former marines. I was in the Navy and the very few times I needed the marines they were there covering my behind. Thanks for your service.

Jeff,

"Jarheads?" smile when you say that!

The army has it's own history to be proud of.

"Simper Fi," allways faithful, is a way of life, like the Boy Scouts "Be Prepared" and the 4-H's devoation to "Head, Hart, Hands, and Health"some of us were lucky enough to grow up with all of them and a good dose of religion. God Bless our Parents, Grandparents, and the Marine Corp!

Bill,

I had a stepfather who was the inspiration of my joining the Corp. He had served during Korea, seen some action, and recieved some medals. He later became a school teacher and then a school adminstrator. He was involved in many types of groups over the years, and he was proud of the fact that he had been a Marine. When he died of a heart attack a few years ago, the Marine honor gaurd played at his funeral.

We had an open casket viewing at the funeral home. Lots of visitors came by. Every night, when we would go by to check on things, there would be some type of Marine insignia pinned onto his jacket. By the end of the viewing, he had numerous pins on his lapels, all Marine Corp stuff. We never knew who had put them there, but it felt great to all of us to know that Marines always stick together.

Happy Birthday Corp.

Kevin,

The truth is I had John Wayne. Of course there was the fact that I was going to be out of school 6 days to long, and the Marines offered me OCS. Then a year later I failed a physical, I never did get to OCS. O'well I wouldn't have traded that time, and training for anything.

Our fathers and step-fathers saved the world, thank God. My Faather was a SeaBee, Brenda's late Father was in the Army Air Corp. Where would we be without them?

24th Infrantry Division

Bill... I know the Army has some history, especially the Engineers... Hell, I was a 12B, a Combat Engineer.  But what I meant was that we don't have any true slogans or such. Where I was stationed at, in Ft. Stewart, GA, our base slogan was "First to Fight". We were the 24th Infantry Division...The Division's nickname was the "Victory" Division.  I was in the 3rd Engineer's Battalion.  Part of that slogan came from the 25th that was stationed in Hawaii, back from the Korean war, I think..

Victory Division - First to Fight

Now... I just looked this up to see how good my memory is and how much I paid attention...

24th_Infantry_Division_(United_States)

In War World War II, they were one of the first ones to see combat and one of the last ones to stop, in regards to my division, the 24th Infantry Division.

In any case, thanks for making me look this up. I learned a little today...  Semper Fi.  And PS... yes, I said Jarheads with a smile...

What the US Marines did for me at 19 was immense: self confidence, leadership, focusing on service to others, understanding "espirit de corps; semper fidelis;  God, corps and country."

Any time you meet a Marine, say, Semper Fi Marine! They'll appreciate it.

God Bless,
