Property parts have life expectancies
By Stephen Fritz, Realtor 832-483-1839
The National Association of Home Builders and Bank of America studied the general life expectancy of the parts of a house to figure out a home's durability.
Of course, product quality, maintenance, climate and general upkeep go a long way in ensuring that your house hangs in for the long haul, but here's what the study found are some of the life expectancies for home components:
Decks, 20 years.
Kitchen cabinets and sinks, 50 years.
Electrical accessories and lighting, 10 years.
Garage door openers, 10 to 15 years.
Whirlpool tubs, 20 to 50 years.
Asphalt shingle roofs, 20 years.
Landscaping sprinklers and PVC piping, 20 to 25 years.
Things that last a lifetime include closet doors, exterior fiberglass, steel and wood doors, floor and roof trusses, natural wood flooring, stairs, insulation, natural stone countertops, all masonry, closet shelves, copper wiring, walls, ceilings and all outside materials, such as brick, vinyl, stone, fiber cement or engineered wood.
