Once again I am persuaded by one of my very active blogging agents to blog about what I did this past weekend. She says I need to show more of my inner self and not always be so - "Broker Like". That I should share with the AR community some personal events, like what I did this weekend. So, here is my weekend account.
Our Granddaughter, Aislynn, celebrated her 13th birthday on Saturday. She is a very accomplished Gymnast (Level 9) and is living away from her parents and home in Bend, Oregon. She is training in an elite training facility in the City of Auburn, Washington and living with a host family. She trains eight hours a day and is in the eighth grade.
Meanwhile the Gymnastic Training Facility Booster Club held a fund raising event on Saturday, the day of her Birthday. It costs to be a high level gymnast, believe me I know now. Anyway, our Granddaughter's mother, our daughter, invited her Aunts and Uncles "The Family" to the fund raising event. The event was a live and silent auction held at the Muckleshoot Casino in Auburn Washington.
Now a word about "The Family". My wife has 7 Sisters (and 7 Brother -in-Laws) and two Brothers (and 2 significant others). The sisters and brother in laws are very opinionated, competitive and liberal. (I am a conservative...getting the picture?) We just had an election and the week prior several of "The Family" members engaged in some interesting argumentative e-mail exchanges. I was one of them. You know offering my learned opinion about the outcome of the election. So I was not really looking forward to face the gloating I was sure was to come.
We all arrived, the ladies attractively attired, the men equally so. We were all raring to go and spend some money for the support of these fine young athletes.
I made my way to the Bar and ordered a Crown Royal on the Rocks.
Astonishment! Not a word about Politics. My wonderful liberal sister- in -laws just wanted to shop. Not talk shop.
Life is Good.
I sauntered over to the Bar and ordered another Crown Royal.
Sipping the delightful refreshment, I contentedly strolled about the silent auction tables willingly placing my auction number on items of interest.
Dinner was served.
I enjoyed another Crown Royal on the Rocks.
The live auction began. I could foresee I was about to pay for my Granddaughters training costs.
I did.
The next morning my wife and I had the honor of escorting our 13 year old granddaughter and her 13 year old friend to the "Super Mall". My wife (grandma) was in jolly mood. My granddaughter was in high spirits. Her friend was very supportive and helpful in selecting garments to be tried on. Me, I was "grouchy" grandpa. I walked, dodged and silently cursed the "Super Mall".
The day ended with a happy granddaughter, appreciative daughter, contented grandmother and an exhausted but proud grandpa.
That my friends is my pithy rundown of our weekend. Thank you for reading.
