I have a client who is in the business of buying companies for a very large company in NYC. When I was working with him, I of course, asked him tons of questions about what he does for a living. Basically, the first part of his job is doing due diligence on the company that his client is interested in. This is real BIG-TIME stuff! So by nature he is an information seeker and gatherer. His motto, and I have 'annexed it' as well, is 'TRUST BUT VERIFY'.
I love to have an arsenal of information (checklists) to reference for everyone I deal with, from my lady who handles all my investments, to my web developer, my accountant and so forth.
I received an e-mail from the IRS about two months ago inviting me to sign up for an 'IRS e-news for Small Businesses'.
In today's timely e-mail was a handy pdf printable brochure: Publication 4591, Small Business Federal Tax Responsibilities, provides essential information for small businesses and the self-employed in one convenient location.
The tri-fold brochure includes:
- Information about Federal Tax Responsibilities
- Most Often Used Forms or Publications for Small Businesses
- Web Resources-Starting, Operating and Closing a Business
- Links to Federal and State Government Agencies
- IRS Media Resources and Services
This is a great resource for many, many reasons. It will give you references and guidelines for you to 'VERIFY' a lot of the information that you are ULTIMATELY responsible for.
Most of the RE professionals I know are self-employed so this is really good stuff for us! It is a must print!
