Flood Zone Changes in Natomas The Natomas Flood Basin is undergoing a flood zone change. The National Flood Insurance Program has determined that the levees surrounding the Natomas Area do not meet minimum flood protection. Flood insurance will soon be required for about 2,600 property owners. Work to strengthen the levee system has already begun; but will not be finished until 2012.

What are my options as a Home Owner? It will be much more cost effective to purchase flood insurance before 12/08/08. You can still qualify for a preferred rate of $348 if you purchase flood insurance prior to 12/08/08 for the first year and be grandfathered in at a standard rate of $768. After 12/08/08 lenders may require home owners to force place Flood Insurance at the higher rate. These rates typically start around $1,100. All rates in the above scenario are estimates specific information is needed for actual Flood Insurance quotes.
