A terrific Tuesday to you all! It is Day 6 of my 29 days of Giving. As I've mentioned, I wanted each gift to be as spontaneous as possible and to avoid stressing over what would be the perfect gift each day.
In speaking with a client this morning, we were discussing a recent donation a local club made to our public school's Breakfast Club . . . a club where young children are provided with a nutritious meal to begin their day. He had mentioned that they had 'topped up' the fund to allow for meals well into 2009. I was expressing my delight at this very generous donation when he went on to say that there are still a good number of young children who do not participate but go to the corner store for Coke and chips to serve as their most important meal of the day. Sad isn't it?!
Well my gift today is a huge sealed bag of fresh apples from a local orchard, dropped off to the school to be given to the small children (up to grade 3) with a colouring contest about the importance of eating fresh fruit and veggies EVERY morning. The winner & parents will be treated to a trip to the orchard, to see that apples don't grow at the grocery store!!! and they can take home with them a selection of apples, apple butter and a fresh baked apple pie.
One small step that might impact a few of these children for life - fingers crossed!
Thanks for reading . . . I hope you'll visit 29 Days of Gifts yourself!
