Today was yet another awesome example of how social networking makes the World smaller, and enables us to connect/reconnect with others.
Back when I was a newlywed, my wife and I were leaders for our church youth group at Redwood Chapel in Castro Valley, CA. We were one of two couples entrusted with the hyper-active 9th graders. One of the 'kids' in my charge was a rather feisty, somewhat rebellious teenager by the name of Scott Ivey. Our first youth group activity together was running around picking up stuff that church members had donated to our big Youth Group Garage Sale. I can still remember how much Scott and I laughed at some of the junk treasures people had pawned off given to us. We became immediate friends, and hung out together throughout the remainder of Scott's illustrious high school career.
Over the years, we attempted to keep in contact. The last time I saw him was over 10 years ago while attending a conference in Reno NV. Back then, Scott was working as an engineer for one of the railroads. He was married, had kids of his own, and was teaching Sunday School at his church.
Earlier today, as I was updating my Facebook profile, I started to enter a few names into the search box, of people I had lost contact with over the years, just to see if I would get any results. Scott was one of those names.
I found his profile, and started to laugh. Scott is now a licensed agent with Avalar Real Estate in the greater Sacramento CA area!
And what's even more hilarious, he has a member profile here on ActiveRain. However, he's just a 'Newb' with only 350 points (which is gonna change here REAL quick!) He hasn't even written his first blog post yet!
If you all would do me a favor, and send Scott a little slap note of harassment encouragement to quit being lazy jump in and get involved in our community? You can harass email him HERE!
Welcome to ActiveRain, Scott!
