Bugs!  I don't care for them usually.  I must say that the one bug that I am fascinated with is the butterfly.

There is a place that my family loves to visit in South Deerfield, Massachusetts  called  'Magic Wings' Butterfly Conservatory.

Before we went there, I did some research and learned that butterflies are attracted to bright colors such as red and pink.  Boy were they!  There were hundreds of these fluttering creatures in this indoor garden.  We were warned that they will land on us and they sure did.

The variety of colors shapes and sizes of butterflies here is quite a magnificent sight to see.  We spent nearly 2 hours just hanging around with them in aw as they fluttered by us.  The temperature inside here is balmy 80-85 degrees, just like butterflies like it... so dressing light is important.

There really is something wonderfully magical about visiting here.

It is a carefree and peaceful experience.

My family has definitely taken a liking to these creatures... And always request to come back here.

In my opinion, this is the kind of place that creates the best childhood memories.

This butterfly came by and landed on my head AND it stay there for at least 30 minutes!

It is about a 1 hour and 20 minutes drive to 'Magic Wings' Butterfly Conservatory & Gardens from Connecticut's New London County.

It is really is worth the trip.

Hey Marlene, we have a place similar to this where I live.  Have you ever been to Callaway Gardens?  If not, if you are ever in this area I think you would love to visit it.  They have butterflies everywhere not to mention the beautiful walking trails, beach area, etc......

What beautiful butterflies.  Like you, I'm not much on bugs in general, but butterflies just fall into a different category all together.

Marlene - What a beautiful place and your photos are gorgeous.   The conservatory is about 2 hours from me and would be a wonderful place to take my granddaughter who just loves butterflies.

Several years ago while with friends at the beach, a butterfly came and literally sat on my left shoulder for 30 minutes or more. Some pessimistic friends said I would have a hole in my sweater, but it didn't happen.  Those butterflies are beautiful.  I've managed to take photos of a few the lit on flowers.

I can also recommend the butterfly room at the Milwaukee zoo.  But, are they bugs?

Marlene.. My children have gone here, but I haven't.. yet.  I'm going to make a point of checking this out.  If you have a lot of other things that are going on in Connecticut.. you might want to check out the group "Connecticut... What Makes Us Great".  I'd love to see these posted there.

Hi Marlene, You totally brightened my cold (16 degrees!), snowy, drab Michigan day. We have The Hendrik Meijer gardens in Grand Rapids, MI. They too have a butterfly conservatory. I took my god-child & best friend there. The following summer they scouted out Monarch larva. They brought them home, put them in a 'bug cage' & proceeded to watch (over the next few weeks) munching on silkweed leaves then the spinning of 24 cocoons! All of them hatched & a Monarch release event was enjoyed with friends!!!
