Great Empires have been built in the Real Estate Industry.  In days past the Realtor who controlled the listings controlled the market.  They were ruthless and hungry much like the Saber Tooth Tiger.  They roamed their area finding their next meal and protected their territory.  They were great hunters and others were not allowed to enter or have knowledge of where they hunted.

Then there was buyer agency and they had to let others in.  They were not hunters; they were gathers and represented those looking to purchase a home.  They were however giants who grazed the land much like Dinosaurs.  They did not allow others in their territory to seek food and water or to know where to look.

In their time they were mighty beast that ruled the earth.  Then came the Internet!  It allowed other realtors to have knowledge and find the fruits of the land.  It also gave the general public access to the same information so they could make their own decisions as to where they wanted to live and what they wanted in a home.

We all know the Saber Tooth Tigers and Dinosaurs have been extinct for millions of years and that same fate awaits Realtors who are not willing or able to grasp the opportunity the internet offers.  The market has shifted in many ways, but perhaps the greatest change will be in our ability to hunt and gather.  Every market has them, the agents who got in the business before computers and cell phones.  They believe they can survive and succeed in this shifting market without changing what they have done for years.  They too are doomed for extinction.

Take a close look at your office.  If they don't have a technology specialist who is up to date on the latest tools and technology and willing to teach you how to get the most out of them you may want to consider a change.  Knowledge is Power!

We were a little concerned that this post might ruffle some feathers but quickly realized that the agents that we're referring to will never see it anyway!!

Yes, yes, yes.  It is true.

The real estate world is changing.  Additionally, commission / flat fee charges are changing quickly.

A word to the wise!!!!!!!!!!!!

Great post. I really appreciate the comparison. I'm always trying to find online "help" for my Realtor partners.

I saw realtors I know in your post!  My partner and I recently made a move that made us much leaner and meaner.  And we are both pretty tech savvy.  I spend at least four hours a day every day perusing blogs and sites for information we can use in the business.  Woe to the realtor left out in the cold!
