Things have changed...it used to be that when you went to a website that said in its name Realtor you used to see Realtor only listings...now you will be seeing FSBO listings also. For more info on this click here now.

My last blog made mention to "What is next Walmart will be getting into Real Estate"...I said that as a Joke....Well the joke was on ME as Walmart IS into real estate now....want to see for yourself click here now.

A fellow AR member pointed this treasure out...Thanks!

So to sum it up...FSBO's on Our Realtor.com and Walmart is going to be selling real estate...well at least finding people to occupy their own stores that they move out of....BUT I wouldn't be TOO surprised to see them selling homes in the future....Hello today sir and thanks for shopping at Walmart! Today sir we have toilet paper on sale and we have an excellent condo that would work well for our specials to be in!!

They could have contests like a monthly special where all the people that spend $200 dollars in Walmart get 1% off their listing fees for selling their homes!

Clean up on Isle #2 and folks...you can clean up today on this property right down the street!! They have reduced the price on this shack...I mean this beautiful property and if you buy it today -you get a $500 WALMART Gift CARD!!! Wheew whooo!!

It's not that I have anything against Walmart or anything....Hey maybe that FSBO site and Walmart can team up....oh yeah...now you have a combination....Billie can you finish the floors and then show Mrs Anderson that beautiful home over there on Maple will you??

Things sure are a changing folks!!

Better start differentiating yourselves right now....or you might be working with Billie and Jeb on isle #2! Better be thinking of that Value Added proposition right about now....

Wow!!!

What is the saying on change?? Make change your friend and you will always have Friends!!

Best,

Rick

Hi Richard,

Interesting...am I reading this correctly, it's selling their excess land?

Also, do you remember a few years back when Costo went into the r.e. biz? I think they tried it for a year or two, discounted services in a pretty strong market. Didn't last, but I would assume they will try it again at some point.

No they would just not charge fees for the first 5 years until everyone was out of business and then drastically raise prices on their monopoly. Well at least thats their current business plan that few seem to have an issue with.

Scary stuff.

I think I've seen cars for sale at Costco. And vacations. Walmart has branched out into food: grocery-type and in-store-fast-food. They have clothes. Boots. Tools. Bikes. Diapers. Toothe brushes. Vitamins. Shoes. I know they have preferred pricing on a lot of their merchandise.  Yes, I have  shopped at Walmart.  However, when possible I prefer to buy  from local merchants.  And if I want quality clothing that lasts a lifetime, there are other stores that have quality clothing and shoes. The other thing about Walmart is that it's so big and impersonal. Sometimes those big box stores give me a headache.

This has got to be a giant PIA looming on the horizon.  Of course there are those that will equate discount rates with discount services.

Richard -

Interesting!

I actually knew about the set up has for selling surplus out-lot land.  I don't think that's too unusual for larger corporations.

Relative to FSBO's on Realtor.com - you knew it was coming as a result of the settlement.  At this point, it does not appear to be a big threat.  Realtor.com is not the MLS, and many states, including here in IL, require certain minimum service standards for Realtors with MLS access.

These discount brokers don't really do much except for becoming a conduit for presenting offers, but, in this tough market, they haven't really picked up much market share here in Chicago.
