Our Friend and fellow Blogger Susie Blackmon posed the question and then followed up by hitting the nail right on the head. Repeatedly.  Susie is kind of shy, but once you get to know her....  Checkout Susie's blog.  How Important Will Big Box Affiliations Be in the Not-Too-Distant Future?

If you are reading this, chances are you are already questioning how your future in the real estate business will unfold.  A year ago, myself and my partner Rick Frissell were asking ourselves the same question.  We knew that the business was changing rapidly, we saw it each and every day.  We had many discussions and planning sessions about how to change our business to best position ourselves for the future.  When the credit crunch was over, we wanted to be prepared and hit the ground running. Also, in the mean time we still had to eat and pay our bills.

Along the way, and while exploring possibilities for the future we ran across the path of Matt Fagioli.  We read what he had written and talked on the phone a few times.  His ideas made sense to us, in a common sense way. We took the next logical step and met with Matt.  Matt's down to earth demeanor and vision of what the future would look like knocked our socks off.  Rick and I did a hand shake deal with Matt and became the first Franchise outside the State of Georgia, which is home base for Diamond Dwellings Realty

Five months into our venture into Diamond Dwellings, we have no regrets.  We are still in the building stage with our website and our web presence. We are still in the process of making BrandonDwellings.Com and our agents the experts in real estate in our chosen areas.  The good news is that it's working.  We are getting business from our website and from our blogging efforts.  Nobody locally had ever heard of Diamond Dwellings Realtyin the Brandon, Fl area, it was not a household name by any strech of the imagination, so our recent success has to be due to our internet marketing and blogging efforts. In the process, Diamond Dwellings has become better known in our area, but our names are even better known as the local real estate experts.  Just this morning, I received a call from a man about home values, based strictly on a blog I did about the subject.  The guy called on my cell phone out of the blue. He said, I read what you wrote on the internet and decided to give you a call.

This is pretty powerful stuff.  This drives home one of the things that we have learned in our blogging, only blog about topics for which you have a business interest. For instance don't blog about Short Sales if you do not want Short Sale business.

Bottom Line,  do you need a big powerful name behind you to be a success in todays real estate market? The answer is a resounding NO.  Is Diamond Dwellings the answer for you?  Could be.  Please do yourself a favor, check out Diamond Dwellings, call Matt Fagioli or Rick Frissell or myself.  See if this could be the answer to Where Should You Hang Your License and Your Future Hopes?

Hey Dave,

I'm so blessed to have you guys here with Diamond Dwellings.  So glad you still love it here.  Thanks for the kind words!

One note of caution...  ...please don't encourage Susie Blackmon to become MORE extroverted!  This could be a real problem  :)

Thanks Matt,  Susie and I are still trying to find a horse ranch up in NC for clients. Just remember, the mountain air keeps here head clear...

Dave...

Susie, shy?  Anyway...  I was with a big name franchise, but one of the things to keep in mind is that the individual offices are owned and operated independently... and they act like it.  Some are great, some suck.  There are a couple of problems with that... to start with, you might be associated with the weakest link just as easily as the stronger link.  Another problem I see is that the big guys are slow to change course.

Finally, one of the issues I faced was branding.  All of the successful agents in the big companies are branding themselves apart from their broker.  There isn't cooperation with the broker and the other agents in the office, but rather competition and secrecy.

The Diamond Dwellings model is different... and that is one of the big reasons I changed.

It's about YOU not the brand name. You need to market yourself as your own brand these days.

I'm not in your area--so no competition!--but I am curious what the Diamond model is?

Right on Target Erica.  I like a brand name though that says, go out and brand yourself first and the company second.  Make yourself the expert in a hyper local area. Thanks for the comment.

Erica,

Diamond Dwellings in a nut shell....

We operate in a growing list of markets throughout the US, but Atlanta is "home"

Diamond Dwellings is a boutique real estate brokerage with specific focus on using technologies to enhance customer experiences. Many brokerages say that they have the latest technology. But "having it" is one thing - implementation is everything. That's where we're winning!

We leverage leading-edge technologies to deliver very current marketing initiatives for Customers, Agents & Brokers.

We focus on specific niche markets in order to deliver far superior results for customers through hyper-accurate analysis, completely innovative marketing - plus deep market understanding.

And Yes, Web 2.0, blogging and social networking are big with us. Thanks for asking.

OK, so this is good stuff.  But, lets be clear that it's about branding something!  If you (as an individual agent) have the ability and focus to solidify a brand either around your name or around your farm or around your demographic -- that's awesome!  If so, the next question you should be asking yourself is "am I leveraging that brand to the highest possible level or am I just in business with myself".

On the other hand, if you are NOT able to really pull off branding by yourself (true of most :) then you want to be part of a group that has brand control in a hyper-local niche.

Either way, Diamond Dwellings model works.

Regards,

Matt Fagioli

I think a lot of agents gravitate to the big names because they get pulled in by the bells & whistles. But it's all about MAKING THE MOST of whatever you've got, in whatever company you're at! A bad agent at a big firm will stil be a bad agent. A good agent will be a good agent ANYWHERE.

Erica,

To take a page from the recent elections....  If you put lipstick on a pig, it's still a pig.  Thanks for your comments.

Good one, Dave! You can put a fancy brand name on a bad realtor, and you still get a bad realtor.

Hi there, I've been trying to get back to comment, and then I thought I'd watch the show first.

First, THANK YOU for mentioning me and my blog/post and my sweet and demure personality! I appreciate the attention very much. Have to admit I got a good laugh about the reference to me being shy. You really are a comic aren't you Dave!

Diamond Dwellings is a business model for today and the future... on the leading edge for sure. You know I've been following them around since I discovered them early in 2008. You and Rick obviously realized the dinosaurs were facing extinction before I did! Speaking of dinosaurs, how IS Rick??

Ouch!  Now Susie,  take it easy on poor Rick.  He's the sweetest dinosaur I know :)

Susie,

I think that Rick and I were both dinosaurs on the verge of extinction, until  we hooked up with the Diamond Dwellings Tribe.  We now feel like we are on track for the future.  We also appreciate the style that you bring to the blogosphere and the net.
