No need to wait for the

         Macy's

     Thanksgiving Day Parade

any longer.

Santa Claus has already come to town.

He is in malls across America as of November 11th, 2008.

When I was a kid, a sighting of Santa would never have been until the very end of that spectacular Macy's Day parade in New York City.

I have memories of watching the TV on Thanksgiving Day, waiting patiently until the end of this parade... To watch this jolly old elf ride up in his sleigh, pulled by Dasher and Dancer and Prancer and Vixen.... You know the rest.  I'd get butterflies in my stomach when I saw him.  To me, it meant that the Christmas season was OFFICIAL here!

Times have changed for he is an early bird now.

Well, what the heck... We might as well jump on into the early to the festivities.  (Yes... I admit, I do love Christmastime).

I think the rule should be we don't start celebrating the next holiday until the day after the previous one.....meaning we shouldn't even be thinking about xmas until the day after Turkey day...but that is my opinion...the businesses know xmas sells so for them the earlier the head start the better.  They were already setting up the xmas displays at the mall near me last week....I am ignoring them and reveling in the pumpkin spice smells and thinking about what kind of green bean casserole I will make this year.

Marlene, I don't think that it will be too long until we see Santa selling Christmas stuff next to the 4th of July displays!  I too, miss the old days waiting until the Macy's Parade to see the first appearance of Santa!

I participated in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade as a clown 3 years in a row a while back. I had a friend who's wife was friends with the person in charge of promotions at Macy's - long story. Anyway, it truly was the event to kick off the holiday season. Now, everywhere I look - from stores to neighborhood homes - the Christmas season has started - and it's not even Thanksgiving!!! Crazy. - Jim

Marlene - Time does fly buy; but our friendly retailers tend to remind us of the upcoming seasons far in advance.  I always enjoy a good parade and the holidays certainly give us a lot to watch and enjoy.

Marlene.. I love Christmas.  I always wished it would be longer when I was a child.  Now it is.. it is just starting before Thanksgiving..verses going into the new year.

I was in Dedham, MA today, and the radio station 105.7 is now playing 24/7 of Christmas songs... WAY before Thanksgiving.. but I'm not complaining... it actually got me into a good mood.

Let's hear it for Christmas.

I walked into Walmart a couple of weeks ago in shorts and T-shirt since it was about 80 degrees outside and was greeted by O holy night... somehow it didn't feel quite right yet.  I love Christmas and decorations but try to avoid the displays too early in the year. Still, maybe in these times, there is a comforting quality to seeing that some things continue as always.
