Being Positive ... on Active Rain, in Real Estate and in Life

By

It's raining today. It rained yesterday and it will rain, almost the entire day tomorrow, too. Is that a bad thing or a good thing? Well, I think it is all in how you look at it. I think it is all in the twist you put on it. What good will it do you to dwell on the negative? I can't walk the dog. He's getting ansy and chasing the cat around the house, chewing a Barbie into pieces and I believe what I just stepped on is the remains of a lego?!! Do I feel better whining about it? No, I really don't. It does not change the fact that the cat is hiding under my bed, nor that my daughter is going to be upset when she sees her now left-hand-less Barbie. So, what do you do with your disappointment, worry, and/or aggrivation... as we say in my house..."Suck it up!" No need to bring everyone else down with you. My family knows it is raining. They can see the dog is ansy, the cat is scared and that my daughter is upset. I choose to look at it a little differently. I'll bet that by Sunday, the dog will really appreciate his walk and his playdate with his best pup pal and really take advantage of playtime vs just lying around the yard like he often does. I'll bet the cat will be so appreciative the next time the dog is boarded. And, I'll bet this will help enforce to my daughter that she should remember to shut her bedroom door when she leaves her room if she is not going to put her toys away.

As slow as Real Estate has been lately, think about how many other agents, lenders, builders, closing attorneys, etc you have heard complaining. Do they think that we don't know it's slow? Do they believe the old 'misery loves company?' Well, Misery doesn't love company! Do you really want to hang out with the guy at the corner of the bar, crying in his beer? No, you want to be with the one that is dancing on the top of the bar, which is threatening to get you both kicked out of the bar, and who is helping you forget, even if just for a couple of hours, that your profession is slow right now.

As the topic comes up, as it does frequently lately, I just tell everyone what I truly believe to be the truth. Yes, real estate, like every other part of the ecomnomy right now, is slow. But, rather than just hanging on and riding it out, I'm being as proactive as I can be. I've taken advantage of this slow time to make a switch to a new company, Real Living Partners Triangle, that has all sorts of new technology. I tell them how I'm learning this new program, 2.0, that was designed to help our clients. I go on about how I am getting my continuing education classes out of the way now, so that I'll have all the time in the world to dedicate to my clients when things turn around in the Spring.

What are you doing to be positive..., on Active Rain, in Real Estate or in Life?
