What is Brain Power? (CBS) Once in a while, we run across a science story that is hard to believe until you see it. That's how we felt about this story when we first saw human beings operating computers, writing e-mails, and driving wheelchairs with nothing but their thoughts.
BRAIN POWER
We’ve all heard gee-whiz stories about people controlling
computers with their minds.
But, until recently,
I had seen little evidence of such a thing.
This 60 Minutes segment turns up plenty of evidence.
It starts with a neuroscientist stricken with a terrible
disease. He had been involved in brain research. Now confined to a wheelchair,
he cannot talk.
But using only his thoughts, he has learned to communicate
through a computer. Seeing what this man can do is simply stunning.
But he’s not the only one. The show visits other laboratories,
where scientists are making similar breakthroughs.
It even watches a monkey operate a mechanical arm with its
mind.
I think this video is stunning. It’s apparent that people who
have been disabled have hope.
The video is 12 minutes long. I bet you’ll watch it all the
way through!
When I see these disabled people, I think, “That could be me.”
So, we should be grateful for what we have.
All of us should live life to the fullest.
