Weltanschauung:  The guiding principles and philosophy of an organization. A world view.

1.    We understand that the value of the ActiveRain community rests entirely with its members. We admire the spirit of real estate professionals and believe our goal is to fully engage their talents and knowledge for the benefit of all members of the real estate community.

2.    We believe that real estate professionals will thrive if they demonstrate their local market expertise.  With ever greater access to listings, local knowledge is now the key differentiator.

3.    We believe that homeownership is a positive force for social good.  ActiveRain is committed to empowering real estate professionals so they can help people achieve the dream of homeownership.

4.    ActiveRain welcomes the active participation of all real estate professionals, irrespective of their affiliation with industry groups or trade associations.  We believe a vibrant and diverse real estate community is essential to maintaining a strong organization.

5.    We believe that the constructive dialogue at ActiveRain fosters transparency among consumers about the industry.  We understand that ActiveRain plays a key role in demonstrating the integrity and professionalism of those engaged in our industry.

6.    ActiveRain prides itself on editorial independence.  We believe that an open, free exchange of ideas is our primary reason for being.  We are not captive of any point of view or agenda – other than to advance the interests of homebuyers and sellers and real estate professionals.

7.    We encourage dissenting or contrarian points of view because our industry is better served by continually examining the status quo. Challenging conventional wisdom is often essential for the evolution of our industry and the development of new opportunities.

8.    We believe in spirited discourse, but personal attacks or predatory behavior will not be tolerated.  Respect and civility are the shared values that unite all of us.

9.    ActiveRain does not stand on ceremony or hierarchy.  ActiveRain is a two-way street. We believe that a continual conversation with our community is critical to our continued growth and vitality. We are fully committed to incorporating member feedback and ideas to improve ActiveRain.

10.    ActiveRain believes that it is in the best interests of real estate professionals to build a community that is focused on educating one another.  ActiveRain believes its future depends on members of all experience levels openly sharing their experiences and best practices with others in the field.  This communal dialogue offers a unique opportunity for professional growth and is the way to share in the dynamism and excitement that constitutes the modern real estate business.

These are a set of good principles established by a Network with vision and insight in the real estate profession. Although dissenting or contrarian points of view are encouraged, I hope the AR team exercises wisdom in discerning why the points are being made and the methods used in making them. Consider the sources and their motives.

I lot more people should take the first step and read what AR is all about. I find that it is pleasant to read some of the bloggers stories, but I believe that those stories are not meant to be on AR. Just like it says above..."ActiveRain believes that it is in the best interests of real estate professionals to build a community that is focused on educating one another."  If it doesn't help me "expand my horizon," then DON'T post it!

I would like to comment on the above comment:

Too bad you have such a narrow view of what may "expand my horizon". You may not realize it, but real estate professionals work on all kinds of levels, including the very esoteric. You may not agree, but that does not mean it (free expression of ideas and thoughts) should be avoided here on AR. Therefore, I commend the people who are willing to expose very personal experiences in order that others can benefit from them.

Thank you Paula, you saved me from commenting on that comment!!! I could not agree with you more on how we learn in AR and daily life and it is not always stories about clients and a problem. The friends I have made on here and read often have great insights into life itself and daily issues which makes us better Realtors and people.

If a person is perfect already or does not agree with the posts and comments then just don't participate, we will be fine, thank you.

I think this is all a joke. I think letting ill informed consumers leave blogs about certain corporations or companies that are completely falsified is ridiculous. There's a difference between free speech and lying. If you are going to have a legitimate website for consumer's to visit to get proper information about certain things then maybe you should do your job and actually contact these companies that are being slandered... just a thought.

Denise:  Points should only be awarded for original content, but we don't always check or catch every instance where our members don't follow that rule. Also, duplicate content can be detrimental to both the collective ranking of our network and the corresponding ranking of the member who posts duplicate content over and over again.

Okay, here is another key ActiveRain community page that I just discovered. With the election today, the phones aren't ringing, so I am taking some time to go through a lot of old stuff on AR.

Welcome to Active Rain Deborah...

I popped over to see if you've posted a Blog yet. You haven't so I couldn't welcome you there so I shall do it here. The first thing you may want to do is join THIS GROUP and do some romping around there. It's the best place to start. Most any question you can think of has been asked. Also take some time and learn to use your AR search Blogs feature. There's a lot of info available at your fingertips around here.

I hope you love AR as much as we do. It's a wonderful Community. Let me know when you're ready and I'll start introducing you around :)

If I'm correct you're referring to Blog Wars. AR Upper Mgmt puts a stop to that nonsense before anyone has a chance to hurt their fellow Bloggers :)

That's part of what makes us so unique in the Blog-O-Sphere. We have a code :)

I am reminded of the following:

"A Declaration of Independence in the Name of Your Own Freedom. And in Your Freedom Lies the Freedom of the World."  from some where in A Course in Miracles

It is what these "guiding principles and philosophy of an organization" stir to my memory.  In a word, "Empowering."  It also sounds a bit like what a country I know of is founded upon.

Scott:   What I find disappointing, is that many of the companies who draft and promote such guiding documents rarely ascribe to their teachings. Fortunately for us these views are genuinely and passionately held by the people who founded our network and the rest of the AR Staff.

I had joined ActiveRain a while back, but never took the time to search the site much.  It was a grey, foggy day here in Scottsdale, AZ - a rarity - so I decided to look at this site some more.  I'm very impressed and learned a lot in the few hours I was able to spend.  Thank you for a great site with great information from all across the country.  In a business where we are sometimes lone rangers, it's great to here from others with similar experiences.

Colleen (&Joe!):  We've tried to be consistent to our Mission Statement. Our underlying premise and passion behind all that we do is to offer our members meaningful tools that help to enhance and improve their business. Most of us have a background in real estate. I'm a licensed agent here in WA. So we understand the challenges and needs of today's RE professionals.

I hope you all don't mind a little "Canadian" perspective. I grew up in the States so I'm fortunate to see two sides of the story...U.S. practices vs. Canadian practices. There are pros and cons to each but the system in Canada is extremely sensible and sound...both in lending and in real estate practices. I sincerely hope we never see again what has happened in the U.S. market these past few years. Do these problems always originate with a "greed factor?" I invite all comments and God Bless the U.S.A.!

Keith:    We welcome a perspective from our neighbors to the North. We are so thankful to have so many members in our community from Canada! Greed certainly does pay into it much of the time. Lack of proper meaningful regulation as well. Let's hope things can get turned around soon!

This reminds me of the Jefferson Airplane song that says "Looks what's happening down the street, got a revolution, got a revolution. Besides showing my age, it makes me think that if Active Rain does not insitutionalize itself like NAR or realtor.com, it becomes a unique force that exist because the sum of the parts is greater than the whole.  This is worth fighting for and long live heresy.

Yes, I'm with TLW. I loved the post, got turned off by the comments. Since when are you allowed to link to other promotional sites and stuff and toss around your own fluff when commenting on someone else's blog post. In very poor taste....AR, do you ever plan to enforce your utopian rules for the benefit of those who comply with them?

Hi there,

"...homeownership is a positive force for social good..." Homeownership is far more than that, it's the foundation of financial success for most of us, for the average person. It adds to long-term financial stability.

As for "personal attacks or predatory behavior will not be tolerated"...Thank you!
