Finally we don't have to drive for 30 to 40 minutes to get to a Whole Foods store anymore. We knew that the Wellington Florida Whole Foods was not scheduled to open until the spring of 2009 so what a surprise when Nestor left the full page Grand Opening ad from the Palm Beach Post on the counter to surprise me when I woke up in the morning last week.
We were leaving to go to Orlando to the National Association of Realtors(R) conference when the Whole Foods grand opening started. The day before we drove to Orlando we were able to make it to Whole Foods to join in the celebration and get the items we needed for our trip.
Now we don't have to drive more than 10 minutes to get to Whole Foods! I am in heaven! Nestor knows that he never has to ask me where do I want to go out to dinner on our night outs. My favorite place to eat is at the Whole Foods Chef's hot food sections.
The exterior landscaping is really gorgeous and upscale. They lined all the large Palm trees with lighting for the evenings. The parking lot was full when I arrived. Nestor, my daughter and Tristan went on ahead of me as I was getting my nails done for NAR.When I arrived the parking lot was packed. After I found a parking place I shot this video walking in to Whole Foods.
Whole Foods has a very nice cafe indoor seating for 120. There is outdoor seating for the winter months with very nice landscaping surrounding it.
As I walked into the store my eyes were drawn to the orchids and other flower arrangements. Here I was able to take some very nice photos of the flowers and arrangements.
You can get lost in the produce section which is huge, consisting of many organic choices and some conventional choices as well as fresh juice bar where you can even get your shot of wheat grass. The exotic fruits are amazing here from the best tasting pineapples to dragon fruit, key limes, guavas and papayas, starfruits and kumquats. I can be here for an hour selecting all sorts of veggies and fruits.
Then you come to the seafood section where we were able to find wild caught salmon and wild caught swordfish. They were giving out samples throughout the store of many different and yummy things to eat.
We stopped off at the chocolate counter to drool over the chunks of chocolate and all kinds of delicious chocolate delights. There is a cafe bar with many luscious deserts and coffees.
Fresh baked bread aroma filled the air as we walked by the bakery stopping off to get cookie for our son. There is a large salad bar, soup bar and then the chef's section with all kinds of entrees and side dishes to choose from. You can eat here for $7.95 per pound. This Whole Foods also has an Asian hot food section complete with Hot and Sour soup.
The Wellington Whole Foods store is their larger floor plan and set up. If you have not stopped by this is a must see. You will love the variety, selection and presentation. Whole Foods knows how to present in style.

I love Whole Foods, especially going there to eat! I don't think we have a chocolate counter at ours, but maybe that's a good thing :) Their food is so yummy and they have the most gorgeous flowers!
Lenn- Did you see the photos of our new grandson just born? So glad I don't have to drive so long to get there once a month. Now we can go once a week:)
Patricia- I love their flowers. Absolutely stunning.
Katerina - an informative and colorful Localism post. Well done. We have a Who;e Foods opening up in Encinitas next year and lots of folks are excited. I actually have buyers, as I suspect you have, who ask about these stores, and others like Trader Joe's when considering neighborhoods.
I am with Lenn - living outside of Chicago, Whole Foods was less than a mile from our home! It was awesome. Now, here in Missouri, I'd say St Louis would be the closest - almost 3 hours away!
Hi Katerina, I love Whole Foods also, but I have to drive about 25 minutes or so to get to the one in Aventura. Actually there is a Wild Oats, which was acquired by Whole Foods, which is 15 minutes away on South Beach. Happy Eating!
Katerina, how wonderful to have a nearby Whole Foods! I've always had a Whole Foods within 10 minutes of me everywhere I've lived in Northern Virginia for over 13 years. They just opened their flagship one in our area about 2 years ago and it's the closest one to me.
By the way, I'd heard a rumor in the past that Whole Foods frowns upon people taking photos in their stores. I looked it up tonight: Why can I not take pictures in your store?
Looks like the management at the new Wellington Whole Foods was not concerned. Just an FYI.
So, is it a chain? We do not have them here. I do not even know where the closest is. And Wellington is what, 3 hours from us? Well, if St. Pete does not have it, what do we want from Daytona.
Terrific localism post. Believe it or not, but now I will be watching for the Whole Foods.
I don't think we have them out here - looks awesome though. I'll have to watch when I go into the big city and see... I don't think I've ever heard anyone mention them either...hmmm... ok now I am hungry!
I am so jealous. We only have one of the small Whole Foods. We are supposed to be getting one of the large stores and they have purchased the site, but since the economy has slowed the project seems to have been put on hold.
Brian- We were told by one of the employees that we could not take photos in the store but then Nestor told him that I was a blogger and he said we could ask the manager. So Nestor found the manager who said we could take the photos, then he said, this is for good news right? We said , of course!
I would love to have a Whole Foods Store nearby. I have been shopping organic from local grocer, what I can. Have even ordered Peapod for a better selection. Always scouting for organic food stores though.
Isn't it great? I'm particularly attracted to the Dessert Bar. Its a great and convenient place to stop and grab a quick lunch when I'm in a hurry. BTW, you beat me to the blog but I love your pictures!

O.K. You names all my favorites. No Whole Foods near me now. Very popular where they are located. I had one where I previously lived.
Oh well. It's the price of living in the country.
