Manalapan home for the holidays

Is it me, or is the holiday season
starting earlier and earlier each year?

I couldn't believe it.  I was at the Freehold Mall today and actually saw Santa Claus!  What is going to happen next year?  He will probably arrive in his Halloween costume, dressed as the Easter Bunny!

I have a love/hate relationship with the holidays.  I hate the hustle and bustle, but love the spirit that the season brings.

Many home sellers view the holiday season with dread.  Some actually suspend their listings until after the New Year.  They worry about their home sitting on the market and getting stale while the buyers are out shopping for presents, drinking hot cocoa and going to holiday parties.

The holiday season offers unique opportunities that home sellers should consider:

  • The buyers that are out during holiday periods are serious purchasers!  In fact, they are exactly the type of buyers that we are hoping to attract.

  • Often relocation buyers make buying trips during the holidays. These are buyers who have a sense of urgency to find their next home.

  • Since homeowners are under the false impression that their home won't sell during the holidays, the inventory is lower now.  Listing now gives the seller the advantage of less competition for those most serious purchasers. Stand out now, or potentially get lost in the crowd later.

  • Most homes never look better or more inviting than when infused with a little holiday spirit!  Of course the smell of baking cookies in the oven doesn't hurt either!

Good Luck!

And in Hawaii, that's when we have the most tourists who are potential buyers!  Cheers for the holidays!

It used to be that we didn't see Christmas stuff until after Thanksgiving. But now, it seems that the Christmas carols and the Christmas decorations have started coming out as soon as halloween ended!

But I'm not one to complain. I love Christmas. I love how people seem to be nicer. I love going to retail shops where there are festive lights and decorations. I love seeing apple cider being sold at the groceries, along with mulling spices.

And...looking back at my sales, it seems that I these are always the busiest times for me. Some people just want to be, and buy, a home for the holidays.

Enjoy!

JoAnna,

You are so correct about the Holiday Season.  I can easily convey the idea that the Holiday Season is an excellent time to market your home.  I have learned to complete all shopping early.  December has been my record sales month all but one year of my career.  It seems in our area many industries relocate around the end of the year along with individual wishing to settle between semester breaks, and investors wishing to invest their last dollar before mid night Dec. 31.  It all adds up to high production and very busy.  Put the running shoes on in December.

I completely agree! It won't be long until we begin seeing Christmas decorations out along with back to school items. There's a lot more competition and a lot less money out there so I think the comercial markets stretch the holiday seasons out longer and longer trying to grab the first shoppers. It's no wonder I get holiday burn out by mid December.

Hey Jo,

I couldn't agree with you more about the Christmas holiday arriving earlier and earlier every year. Honestly, I heard a Christmas song on the radio the very next day after Halloween!  My favorite time during the Christmas season is strolling down the avenue, stopping in at various shops, while holiday music is being played outdoors and there's a flurry in the air.  Ah, sometimes I do miss the North...

I bet you don't miss the shovelling!!

And you haven't lived until you try to show a home that hasn't shovelled the walkway, or worse, it's vacant, they've shovelled and it is a sheet of ice!

We need hazard pay!

JoAnna - I am one who is irritated by premature Christmas commercials, music and displays. I'm good to go on December 1st but not before.  Your Christmas post didn't even trigger my pre-December 1st alarm. I get it...and think you're right on! - Tana

Alright... that's the last straw!!  Just got home and saw that 2 homes were actually lit up and decorated for Christmas!  While I don't agree, at least I can understand why retailers are trying to extend the buying season, but now homeowners have jumped on that bandwagon!!  No thanks!!

Joanna  - ROFL Santa Clause in a Halloween costume dressed as the Easter Bunny??? My sentiments exactly! Thanksgiving is a blip on the radar and it's sad. It is such a meaningful holiday in our country's history or at least it used to be. I almost feel guilty for still having my Harvest/Thanksgiving Scarecrows and pumpkins out!

December has historically been our most successful month. We have been tops in the company at least twice. Derenda is right, shop early!

Thanks for stopping by and commenting on my blog :)

Oh so true!  and agreed, I defintiely have a love hate thing going with the early arrival of Christmas.  Love the colors of the season -- and can't figure out why no one has noticed that  the Halloween and Tday shades of orange are realy ugly when combined with Christmas red!

Hey JoAnna-

You are so right where is the time going?!?!?! The good thing for us is that now is the time that people start either thinking about a) coming back home where their families are, or b) falling in love with the warm, cozy feeling that a decorated house brings.... My question is, what happens when you take the decorations down!!! (uh-oh!) Either way, I have to admit it is nice when the "end of the year sales" happen... It still makes me laugh when sellers are surprised to hear that holiday sales happen.

Nice post - great reminders!
