THE TOLEDO BLADE NEWSPAPER WANTS IT BOTH WAYS....
IS THE TOLEDO BLADE NEWSPAPER A CANCER ON THE CITY OF TOLEDO OR A BEACON OF HOPEFUL COMMUNITY REVITALIZATION AND JOUNALISM FOR THE CITY OF TOLEDO? THE TOLEDO BLADE NEWSPAPER MAY JUST BE THE CANCER ON THE CITY OF TOLEDO THAT KEEPS OUR AREA FROM BECOMING ALL IT COULD BE.
IS TOLEDO ALIVE OR DYING? THE TOLEDO BLADE SAYS BOTH - APARENTLY DEPENDING ON WHO THEY ARE CATERING TO AT THE MOMENT!
LETTER TO THE EDITOR - THE TOLEDO BLADE - SUBMITED MOMENTS AGO
OK: Which part is fact and which is fiction? I refer to regular reporting vs. your upcoming "Discover Toledo" piece. If one considers the way the BLADE writes about Toledo real estate, and other local issues, then one of these two outcomes is a work of fiction.
If the DISCOVER TOLEDO piece paints a picture of Toledo as a community that is a "vibrant and exciting place to live and work" (your own words) then your regular reporting of recession / brain drain / depression and loss is a fiction. If the regular reporting is honest and necessary, in the spirit of journalism with integrity, then the Discover Toledo Insert will be the fiction piece.
I believe in this city. I live here, and as a Realtor, I make a living selling this city to others. The Blade makes this nearly impossible, and you are the last place I really want to spend my ad dollars.
YOU - THE BLADE - are in a unique and powerful position to make our city better - with upbeat and regular PROMOTION of the city instead of weekly decapitation. Will you PROMOTE, LIFT UP, ENCOURAGE, FIND THE GOOD? Or will you continue to run an old school newspaper with ivory tower attitudes toward advertisers as well as a hunger for darkness and dirt?
I could support the former. Much of the city already voted on the latter. Your move!
