I recently mentioned the Las Vegas Neon Museum in a blog on Heritage Street at the Clark County Museum. At the county museum they have saved several historic buildings from Las Vegas' past, and will be a focal point of the county's 2009 centennial celebration.
The Neon Museum not only restores and preserves the art of the signage of Classic Las Vegas that you may have seen around downtown, but they are in the process of saving the unique architecture of the La Concha Motel lobby. It was saved from the wrecking ball from the construction of the Fontainebleau Resort scheduled to open next fall.
This non-profit organization has raised the money for the disassembly and move of this historic building to the 'boneyard' on Las Vegas Blvd. next door to Cashman Center. There they have been fund raising to reassemble the building. When completed, it will serve as their entryway to a visitors center and offices that will allow them to offer regular hours of admission, rather than the current 'appointment only' tours.
Here's where you can help to complete the project with a simple click of the mouse. Hampton Inns is running a 'Save the Landmark Program' and the Neon Museum is one of the 3 selected for Nevada, and the only one from the southern end of the state. If it gains the most votes, the help provided from this program will create the opportunity to complete this historic project.
So click on this link for Hampton Landmarks Nevada and cast a vote for the Neon Museum at the bottom of the page. Make sure to bookmark the site and vote every day up until the voting ends on December 5, 2008. Then you can check back to see if it won. If it does you'll know you helped to save this unique slice of art, architecture, and Americana... and a bit of Las Vegas' glowing past.

They got my vote! I've always wanted to tour the boneyard. Never able to do the appointment would be much better to have the regular hours. Cool pano and pics in the link to the Sun story. Be awesome to see it all finished. Thanks Roberta!
