When The Divorce Spills Out Into The Front Yard...

By
Real Estate Agent with Charles Rutenberg Realty

For Sale Sign

The One That Didn't Make It On The MasterCard Priceless Commercial...

Although it first made me chuckle... It's sad that the trouble behind closed doors had to break out into the front yard...

I'm sure that this is not what MasterCard had in mind when they launched their "Priceless Campaign".

Is it savvy marketing or just a bitter divorce?

What would you think if this "For Sale Sign" was in your neighbor's yard?

Melody - We sold a house for a couple that was divorcing... The neighbors hated the husband and told everyone that the house had termites and would take all the flyers at night.

I look at the sign and think "Can I get a really good deal?"  How bad do they want to get divorce?  Enough to all most give it away?  Could be asking for some really low offers.

I think its brilliant.  It is original, it gets people talking and you can bet that it will get the added exposure that listings in most areas need today.  I'm not sure it would work in our community, but I give the creator kudos for marketing outside the box.

Very good idea...definitely catches your eye.  Sort of along the same mentatlity as the "ugly yellow sign" theory

Bill - It does stand out... Actually, you can't miss it.

Kim - I agree... It is funny and sad, maybe brilliant?

Kristin - I can only imagine what people would really like to say on their signs.

Joseph - I'll keep you posted on the sign.

Kristin- I agree... I think it is brilliant - but could also be hurtful if they have children.

Kelly - I'm with you... Everyone I've shared it with thought that it was very original.

Brian- I concur...  It says something for MasterCard, the ads have set a tone with people.

Hi Debbie~ Hey! If it works, why not? It certainly gets your attention, but it may not send the "right' message.........may be perceived as desperate to sell.... I wouldn't use it as an Agent, but a seller can

Debbie, Very interesting! I would think bitter divorce after seeing this sign and immediately think the price is probably very negotiable!

Catchy but an invite to a low offer.

The only problem I see with it though is being advertised most people are going to ask what went wrong.  The male buyer will likey side with the husband, the female buyer is going to side with the wife.  So while the Male Buyer wants to help a poor guy out, the female buyer will not want to help this SOB with his divorce.

We had one of these cases in my neighborhood (though it was a rental property).  Gotta be honest, we spent alot of time on our front porches.  The entire neighborhood had very maintained landscaping that summer until the drama ended.

Debbie~ So I'm guessing this sign wasn't in a "deed" restricted community? Ouch...I wonder how the wife feels about the husband's communication of their motiviation to sell?? Maybe his lack of maturity is one of the reasons for the divorce?? Just a thought...

You know it is getting more attention than any other for sale sign, but will it actually produce a sale? That is to be seen isn't it?

Oh my word... My mouth is still hanging open. I hope children don't live there. Imagine having to take the school bus with that staring in everyone's face. Funny and sad at the same time...

Debbie:

It is a shame, people lose their privacy and don't care. It becomes a war of feelings or lack of.
