Last night I came home with the kids as I do every evening... carrying my bags, kids backpacks and what have you. As we turned on the lights one of my girls pointed at the blinking light on the answering machine and said: "Mommy, there is a message on the machine".

I navigated my way to the answering machine and here is the message:
"We have information about the return of your Soldier. Please, call .... to get the flight information... "
I didn't hear the rest of the message as the kids started jumping up and down screaming to the top of their lungs "Daddy's coming home! Daddy's coming home!"

For those of you that never had to part with your loved one for months and years, you don't know what that means, but for those of you that come from military families and been through this... you know the feeling... YOUR SOLDIER is coming HOME! - The best words I've heard in the last 15 months!

Tomorrow night I'll be staring at the night sky, counting minutes till the flight carrying my husband lands on Ft. Campbell's airfield. And there will be hundreds of mothers, fathers, wives, children, and friends doing the same, looking forward to their loved one's return! May God bless all our men and women in uniform and their families!
Welcome Back!

Meli,

I had no idea your husband was deployed, let alone in the military!  I bet you are just thrilled to pieces that he is coming home!  I'm so happy for you.  Godspeed for a safe flight home and a joyous family reunion!

Thanks Jeannie! You have no idea! It has been a very long wait! This is his third deployment to Iraq and this last one has been 14 1/2 months and going. He missed our twins birth on his first deployment, he missed our sons middle school graduation on his second deployment, the girls started Kindergarten this fall, missed lots of birthdays, lots of holidays... to many things to count! Our son is half way through highschool now and probably taller than him :o)  We're so looking forward to having him back!

Power to you, sister!

I can only imagine how thrilled you all are.  Is he going to be home for good now?

** editing to add:  I am so grateful for his and your comittment to our great country!  Thank you (to both of you!)

Jeannie, I'm not sure if he'll stay for long! I know our Ft. Campbell guys already have orders to deploy to Afghanistan in January 2010. I don't know if he's going or not. It's possible he'll go one more time! I'm hoping by then we will resolve some of these war issues and he won't have to go! I'd like to have him home for a while (a long while) It's not easy being a full time single parent and a part time spouse (on and off)!

Meli - what a strong woman you've had to be.  It's hard to imagine what life would be like without my husband for 15 months.  And missing such important things....  I saw a bumper sticker the other day that said "The only job harder than being a soldier is loving one", and that must be true.  I'm sure you're busy enjoying much needed family time, and so glad to hear he's back.

Hi Penny! - I don't think I could've said it any better than that bumper sticker: "The only job harder than being a soldier, is loving one" Very true! Even more so when you have a family!

I'm happy to say that my husband made it back and we're very happy to have him home among us! :o)
