We were invited to sponsor "Trunk or Treat" in our subdivision. We decided to be pirates. We needed a treasure chest for our display in the back of myJeep. My wife looked around & treasure chests are expensive. So, I had an idea. Brought home a cardboard box, cut the top and used papermache to fashion a rounded top, cut additional strips of cardboard and glued over the chest. Spray painted it inside and out. It really looked like a treasure chest. We put an old sheet in the bottom, some pieces of silver, beaded garland from the Christmas tree, some pirate coins and princess rings - the kids loved it. We gave out the pirate coins (pirate treasure - from the treasure chest) and princess rings to the kids instead of candy.
We spent less than $30 and had a blast - and so did the kids!
You don't have to spend alot to find a treasure.
