Knowledge is Your Power For The Freedon of a Worry- Free Home!

Just like haven knowledge when buying a home. Before go-en out hunting with a Muzzleloader Rifle, you want to have knowledge of shooten with one.

It's very important to develop yourself a good hunting load for your rifle.

A muzzleloader hunter must continually have balance increased velocity with acceptable hunting accuracy. The ideal hunting load should provide you with two benefits. The first would be usen the powder charge the manufacturer's recommendation for maximum energy. Secondly, is really more important, your charge should assure a flatter trajectory than a target load does.

The higher velocity provided by a larger hunting powder charges in the first 50 to 75 yards of range flattens the trajectory and over all increases your point blank range.  When you have sighted dead on at 75 yards, ya will not need to adjust for trajectory from 25 to 75 yards. All ya neet to do is take aim at your target and fire. Knowien that the projectile will fall within the kill zone. The velocity and energy of a load, as well as the flatness of the trajectory, are related directly to the powder charge. So to determine your best and proper hunting load, slowly increase the powder charge in small increments and measure the extreme spread. Be very careful not to overcharge. Be sure to consult the powder manufacturer's maximum suggested load. You just may find yourself to be fortunate to maintain a small enough group at the maximum charges to have yourself a 50 to 75 yard effective range from your fifle.

You do want to remember, that some rifles are particularly sensitive to variations and charges and will only shoot one load with acceptable accuracy. When thats the case, ya must do one ot two things. You'll either have to use the accurate charge and give up some velocity or restrict your shooten range to that where the more powerful loads give ya adequate accuracy.

.As a hunter and shooter, you have a obligation to thoroughly learn how your rifle shoots and at what distance ya can accurately place a shot with your chosen hunting load.

A often used determinate is that distance at which your rifle can produce a pie plate size group. If your rifle can shoot 7 to 10 inch groups at 75 yards with a good stout load, 75 yards is an acceptable range. But if for some reason your rifle will not shoot a group that small at that distance, you'll need to shorten your range or find yourself a much more accurate load.

You'll also want to take the time to learn how your rifle will perform at various distances. You find this can easily done at a local range by shooting at the same point on targets that are placed at varying distances. From do-en this kind of practice, you'll see just how far above or below the point of aim the ball will hit at ranges you'll encounter during hunting situations.

Happy hunting, and always hunt safely!

Dale - Something strange is happening with AR tonight. I have been trying to get my blog page backgkround back. I see your blog is down to only red background.

Yes, I agree. I always go to the range to sight in my guns. I don't think it is the guns anymore, my old eyes aren't what they use to be. Just got in a bit ago from Dilley so may not make the whole Blog Along tonight.

You should see what  Ceil fixed for my B-Day tomorow. The Spurs play Sacramento tonight.

AR has been doing something to the site all weekend. Been a seen all kind of thing a go-en on.

Just way to many folk's think they can go buy a rifle, and then just go out hunten with it. With out ever getten to know it. As to how it shoots or anything.

Ceil told me, you and Garrett had gone to Dilley today, to catch up with David.

How was things there?

Everything at Dilley was good. Had a deer down that they couldn't find. A neighbor rancher brought in his dogs but could never find him --- the brush is so thick we finally gave up. Carlos that had the dogs said he would continue looking; he always takes the deer to a boy's home so they can use for food.

Hi Dale, as a lifelong avid hunter (my father was an excellent influence) I enjoy reading about all kinds of hunting and have a special attitude toward safety and accuracy. You muzzle loader are a special breed. I accompanied a group of Boy scouts to Philmont a few years back and we spent a day at one of the camps learning about black powder and muzzle loading and we barely scratched the surface. Thanks for the iinteresting posts and good hunting to you my friend!

Hello!Hello!... another very fine post... you are so smart about so many things. Steve likes to reload but has never gotten into black powder; I bet you two would really like each other. I hope you are feeling better and have a great evening! Your Tennessee Friend Brenda :)
