The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) has a interesting website. This is sort of neat. On the website you can click onto a given camera and get a real time picture of that road traffic at that time.
Leolinda - They have some thing similar in Las Vegas and I really don't know if it's a good thing, or bad thing. We are continuing to lose more and more of our privacy , aren't we? Very interesting post!
The Cameras noted in the following blog are primarily used as a resource for community members to monitor traffic as they venture out onto the freeways. The cameras provide real time visuals of what traffic looks like and this can assist the community member before making a decision in taking a certain route.
That really is a great idea. Too bad they don't let more people know about that, I'm sure with so many people carrying smart phones, it would be really handy for getting around the valley.
The camera information and information on ADOT projects can be found at the following Web sites: www.azdot.gov or www.ValleyFreeways.com or you may contact me anytime. I am the Community Relations Project Manager for projects in the Northwest and Southwest Valleys.
Brad, I guess Arizona can be considered a Techy State! These camera are primarily used for traffic flow and accordingly arenottraffic or red light ticket cameras. The cameras are very helpful to people who have a great distance to travel during peak periods in determining which route to take. I think it is just an indication on the progressive and innovative ideas that Arizona is incorporating.
Brad, than you for sharing. I appreciate your input and welcome your comments. We both need to promote our gorgeous state and all of its technological resources.
Community meetings set for ADOT's Grand Avenue widening
Community members invited to view and comment on design plans
PHOENIX - The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) is inviting drivers and community members to view and comment on final design plans for the upcoming US 60 (Grand Avenue) widening project between Loop 303 and 99th Avenue at one of two public meetings on Dec. 2. Community members will have the opportunity to ask questions about the project and meet with ADOT staff members.
Meetings will be held:
1:30 - 3:30 p.m.
Sundial Recreation Center, 14801 N. 103rd Ave. in Sun City
6 - 7:30 p.m.
Surprise Elementary School, 12907 W. Greenway Rd. in El Mirage
Grand Avenue is scheduled to be widened to six traffic lanes (three lanes in each direction) between Loop 303 and 99th Avenue. Construction is expected to begin in 2009 and be completed in 2011. To minimize the need for additional right of way, widening is planned to occur primarily within the existing median. The project includes improvements at signalized intersections, but no grade separations (underpasses or overpasses). The feasibility of constructing grade separations in certain locations is being conducted as part of a separate study.
The project is included in the voter-approved Regional Transportation Plan.
A brief presentation about the project will take place 30 minutes after the start of each meeting, followed by an open house where community members can view maps and displays about the project. Representatives from the ADOT design team will be present to answer questions during and after the formal presentation.
For more information about the meetings or improvements, or to arrange for special accommodations at the meetings, contact the Northwest Valley Community Outreach Team at 480-890-3055 or projectupdate@lewin-associates.com. Comments on the project may also be sent to Brock Barnhart, c/o Northwest Corridor Community Outreach Team, 1146 N. Mesa Dr. #102-298, Mesa, AZ 85201.
Community members are encouraged to sign up for ADOT's Grand Avenue mailing list at www.ValleyFreeways.com to receive news and construction alerts about the project.
Andrew, the purpose of these cameras are to monitor traffic flow. I don't believe that they are used for ticketing purposes. Check out one of the links.
