South Jersey Budgets take a Hit

South Jersey BudgetOur counties across America are experiencing budget shortfalls. I knew this seemed like something I had heard when I read a recent post by Lenn Harley.  So to verify, here is a local post from South Jersey's Courier Post about South Jersey's own shortfalls.

Here are the current estimates ...

  • In Camden County, the budget gap is about $5 million
  • In Gloucester County, the gap is about $4 to 4.5 million
  • In Burlington County, the gap is about $3 million

Unnecessary Expenditures

Thankfully, each county seems to have a plan to curb spending, such as cutting overtime for workers and cutting what some officials consider "unnecessary expenditures".  Of course the question begs to be asked ... If they are "unnecessary expenditures" then why are they there anyway???

The common theme to the budget shortfalls is real estate related.  Let us hope their optimistic outlook and budget cuts are realistic and helpful.

Don't you just love that????

Thinks of California with a $24,000,000,000 short fall.  They want to tap the national treasury.  I think they should tap the oil under their coastal waters.

I love "unnecessary expenditures." It just proves that the worst thing you can give a politician is money.

Steve, one particularly troubling shortfall that can be directly related to the drop in home sales is the funding of legal services.  That group, here in NJ, is funded by the interest on attorney trust accounts, so you can imagine how much they've lost.  Legal services provides needed legal assistance to the poor and indigent in NJ.
