Our counties across America are experiencing budget shortfalls. I knew this seemed like something I had heard when I read a recent post by Lenn Harley. So to verify, here is a local post from South Jersey's Courier Post about South Jersey's own shortfalls.
Here are the current estimates ...
- In Camden County, the budget gap is about $5 million
- In Gloucester County, the gap is about $4 to 4.5 million
- In Burlington County, the gap is about $3 million
Unnecessary Expenditures
Thankfully, each county seems to have a plan to curb spending, such as cutting overtime for workers and cutting what some officials consider "unnecessary expenditures". Of course the question begs to be asked ... If they are "unnecessary expenditures" then why are they there anyway???
The common theme to the budget shortfalls is real estate related. Let us hope their optimistic outlook and budget cuts are realistic and helpful.
