The last thing that I really want to do on a Saturday or Sunday morning is wake up with the sun. Well this past Saturday that is exactly what I did. I awoke a 6:45 AM!
The dog thought I had lost my mind and refused to get out of bed. Did I mention that Saturday was the first really cold day, ushering in winter and freezing fall. I put on my slippers and shuffled into the kitchen to make coffee. I had about 30 minutes before I piled in the car and headed to the local high school where volunteers from the University of Tennessee School of Nursing were administering FREE flu shots. They were accepting donations, with little pressure, for the Empty Stocking Fund.
I understand that there are many different opinions on the cost/benefit relationship argument of getting the flu shot. I also understand there are political and philosophical arguments on both sides of the issue. Yes, I did a previous post on the flu shot.
The inoculations were to begin at 8:00 AM so, as a masochist, I got there at 7:30 AM; did I say the cold had arrived? Thankfully, they opened the doors early and admitted the 30-50 people who had lines up to be pricked by the perky nursing students. All I had to do was sign a simple waiver; yes I do know the implications of a waiver. With waiver in hand I was ushered into the school cafeteria where I promptly received my flu shot. I was done by 7:45 AM and off to reward my bravery with an egg and cheese biscuit; yes it is probably not that healthy, but I just voluntarily had a needle shoved into my arm!
I want to let everyone know that I have had no adverse reaction at all! No redness, swelling, nor tenderness at the injection site. I didn't develop chills and fever and need to lay in bed. In fact, I didn't even take that nap I had bribed myself with to get out of bed that morning. So that is how my Saturday morning went. Now if I get the flu...
What a way to spend the day you should be at least be healthy for the season.
