Movie Reel & ClapboardLights - Camera - ACTION!  If you haven't heard, you might want to pay close attention to what is going on in Plymouth MA.  Hollywood is coming to town.  Plymouth Rock Studios has entered into an agreement to purchase the Waverly Oaks Golf Course and build their $400+ million studio complex on this beautiful piece of real estate consisting of 240 acres.  It is proposed that it will contain a state of the art move production studio, 14 sound stages, a luxurious movie theatre, a 10 acre back lot, offices, a hotel, shops and a restaurant. 

What does that mean to the community?  Jobs!  The studio has held a few job fairs and the turnout has been considerable.  Job forums were held in Mid-October and another one was held a few days ago.  This is an exciting time for the community.  The project is estimated to create 2,000+ jobs. 

Watch closely, there is already buzz that some businesses are scouting property and/or leasing opportunities in the area.  Residential property will quickly become a hot commodity in and around the Plymouth area.  Residential property is still relatively inexpensive. According to Massachusetts Association of Realtors, the median selling price for a single family home (Sep 2008) in Plymouth was $340,000.  There are some really great buys in many of the surrounding communities.

Plymouth is such a unique area - renown for its history, fresh seafood, fantastic beaches and close proximity to Boston (approx. 40 miles south) and Cape Cod.  Plymouth is the second largest town in Massachusetts and is immediately surrounded by Bourne, Carver, Wareham, and Kingston.  Other nearby towns include: Duxbury, Marshfield, Middleboro (proposed destination Casino to be built), and Sandwich. 

This project should bring in new businesses, new job opportunities and an increase in tourism.  The estimated start of construction is spring 2009 with a targeted opening of September 2010.  Please check back to find updates on the project or email me at judy@cedroneandmacdonald.com.

thanks for the post Judy! We here on the Cape are hoping that it will draw more people to buy real estate here and in Plymouth?! Do you have a Point2Agent website by chance?

I think this Plymouth Rock Studios will do wonders for the area. There have already been a few executives that have purchased real estate in Plymouth within the past six months. 

I tried Point2Agent but did not keep up with it.  I am working on a website now, but have not launched it yet.
