Ever Wondered About WordPress?

By
Commercial Real Estate Agent with Matthews Capital Markets NMLS 2415712

Have you ever wondered hoew to set up "an outside blog" on a Wordpress platform?  Greg Swann makes it really easy with a free wordpress blog (hosted on a really strong platform):

Say hello to BloodhoundBlog.net, free WordPress Multi-user weblogs for real estate professionals.

We talked about doing this in Orlando, at The scenius on Swallow Hill Road. Where we started was with the idea of WordPress blogs for the CyberProfessionals to practice on.

We saw that the right system could serve the same function for any novice bloggers — including all of the folks on Active Rain looking to make the leap to WordPress weblogging.

And BloodhoundBlog.net can also be a space for BloodhoundBlog Unchained instructors to help their students get their homework together before coming to Phoenix.

Is this your last word in real estate weblogging? It can be, but that strikes me as a poor idea. What we’re offering is a free weblogging platform where real estate professionals can learn and grow, ultimately to go off and set up their own WordPress.org weblogs.

And you had better know this is an Unchained weblogging world: You can import content from a host of blogging platforms, and everything you do on BloodhoundBlog.net is easily exported when you’re ready to move on.

If you want to go ahead and get started, just go to BloodhoundBlog.net and set up a new blog. It’s fast, easy and fun.

Still here? Who should set up a BloodhoundBlog.net weblog?

Brian, are you going to teach me how to add pluggins? I have a wordpress. org but can't figure out how to add the pluggins and have to have Brad add them. I'm not stupid just need a one time walk through. I have downloaded foxzilla so am ready to go.

Ok off to visit the site.

Sorry to butt in here, Brian.  But Missy, what part of adding plugins is giving you trouble?

How's this for a Walk-through:

Download plugin

Unzip plugin

Upload entire unzipped plugin folder to to this folder on your host:  mysite.com/wordpress/wp-content/plugins

(( Be aware that sometimes folders become "double-nested" when you unzip them, so be sure you have drilled down to the folder that actually contains the plugin files.  :-)  ))

At the WordpPress admin dashboard, click Plugins at the far right side

Scroll down to Inactive Plugins, find the plugin you just uploaded and click Activate

((Since BHB.net is a multi-user community set-up, all plugins will have to be added through the administrator.))

((And PS, I think the FileZilla interface is much too confusing.  Try WS_FTP or CuteFTP instead.  :-)  ))

Cheryl,

Butt in- you know much more than I about WP design; I just write.

I "Re-Blogged" you

Ooh, baby

PS:  CJ knows a lot aboout Typepad and WP.  I was amazed at how easy it was to import my Typepad content to my new Wordpress blog,  Beyond that, I"m a novice.

Thanks Brian, And just a confession here:  There are a couple TypePad questions waiting for me in comments over on Mother.  My hands are kinda full right now, and I haven't had a chance to figure them out.  Sigh.

Hi Brian - thanks for the reminder about this offer. I saw it when it first went up, checked it out and then forgot where I had seen it.  I'm definitely going to give it a whirl - need something not proprietary, and this will do the trick.

Brian,

Thanks for the post. Wordpress is getting a lot of press these days. Best to know your limit on being able to maintain another blog. However, always good to see what is available and how best to use it.

Hi Brian,

I am working on my own WP blog now with a designer.  I don't try to do what takes up valuable time, I outsource when I can.  Really great that you guys have set this up for folks to try it and then migrate to their own WP blog.

All r.e. professionals should have their own blog.  You should contribute to a community (or 2 or 3) and have your own blog too.

I love my wordpress blog but do wonder...how many is too many??  I like to blog and it keeps me reading and on top of real estate information but at some point, I need to sell the real estate too.  I think I like having one or two robust and informative blogs.  For me anyway, more than that would be stretching it.  If I were looking to start one now...bloodhoundblog.net would be fabulous!
