foundThe ActiveRain Real Estate Network has only been around a few short months and yet quickly it's helped propel many community members to the top of the charts.  The search engine charts that is.  As a consequence of this increased exposure many of us have been found.  Found by those who lost contact, or couldn't reach us any other way.

My question to you is: "Who found you?."  Being that you were once lost, I'd like to hear about how ActiveRain helped put you in touch and what experience means to you.

Please tag your responses with the following tags so that it will be easily found and categorized.

ActiveRain benefits, lost and found

My favorite story will be awarded 200 points after contest conclusion on Monday September 28th.  The story must be true to be eligible for the contest.

Thank you,

Caleb Mardini

While this really has nothing to do with real estate, I felt it fit with the topic.  So here goes.

When I was in the 4th grade, we moved from Maryland to Virginia.  At the time, it was quite traumatic because it was the only place I could really remember living.  But my father had made the decision and there was no stopping him once his mind was made up.

We joined a new church, which I didn't really like but I did make some very nice friends.  One of these friends was a girl named Michelle (just like me!).  In the middle of 8th grade, I got kicked out of the church school.  Long story!  Suffice to say, it wasn't a pretty incident; and I felt as though I'd again been ripped apart from the few friends that I chose to keep.

Fast forward from 1980 to 2006...

Every once in a while, I get an email from someone on Classmates.com. It's always interesting to see where your old friends are in their lives and where they've been. On January 7, 2006, I received a message from someone with whom I've not spoken since about the middle of 8th grade. That would put our last conversation around the end of 1980 sometime. She told me all about her life since we split up. She told me about her marriages, divorces and children. Both of our respective sets of parents are divorced and remarried. And we both have had some harrowing experiences.

Then it dawned on me. We both consider ourselves survivors. We are survivors from a horrible church background that has marred our very thinking about life in general. We are survivors of abuse from various people in our lives. Survivors of our own lives! Then she brought up an interesting thought - did our childhood church experience (one church in particular) cause us to be cursed in some way because we chose paths that were different than what was prescribed by this church?  To someone outside of our circle, this may sound like an odd question; but to us, it makes perfect sense.

Many others that we knew, went to school with, went to church with, have ended up in jail, on drugs, been married multiple times, etc. So I have to ask myself one simple question: Had we chosen to stay with this church and its people, would our lives have been any different? Any better? Any worse?

I decided it was time to do some life inventory. Where have I been? What have I done? Where am I going? Do I have any plans for the future? Do I even have a future anymore?

So that's where I am... doing an inventory of my life and hoping I don't come up empty-handed in the end.  Thanks, Michelle, for giving me the courage to wake up and see that my life isn't nearly as bad as I had originally thought!

I was organizing a seminar on "blogging" st the Florida Associations of Realtors in Hollywood, Florida this week for the Florida CRS Chapter.  We had a panel discussiong with the Ellis Group founder Brett Ellis, Sharon Simms, Dominique Colaio, and Zahara Mossman, which was monitored by Tomothy Kinzler.  All of them showed us the important to be on top of technology, and that blogging is just the beginning.  Tim brought a traditional tooth brush and then asked wether we all have seen the "tech" brush, which does the wokr for you and tells you when your teeth are clean. It really sunk in - and when Sharon demonstrated how easy it is to create a blog - I was transformed to the "new age"! I was not back home from the convention, when I received an invitation from Sharon to create my blog on your web site! Awesome! Here I am - the "youngest" blogger!

Thank you for providing a category for Real Estate Auctioneers. There are only a few of us currently on the site, but that will change as we are spreading the news in the auction community.

I was somehow found by a mortage broker in Fairfield County CT.  I do not know him but once I signed up I was glad that I did.  I am enjoying reading all the blogs and getting information and ideas from other realtors in the forums section.  So thanks to the whole "your invited" concept.  I have just sent invitations to a couple of new agents in my office I thought might benefit from reading someof these posts.

I've already made some local contacts and hopefully, friendships from Active Rain. I hope to gain many more as I explore all the various opinions and topics. I think it's a great networking site, and who can't learn something from their peers? Every single day???

I don't remember who I joined through, it was someone on a forum who had a website through my website hosting company.  I'm sure glad, though.  Until I started tweaking what my description text had it in I had shot to number 1 in the not-so-small city of Chicago on my second choice search engine string...in just 2 months!  My own website was number 2.  Obviously I have to tweak them back, because having done so, they are both much lower again...:(

I came across this site by accident. I do blog in other areas but they are not real estate blog sites. When I started surfing through the site,I thought this could be the beginning of a beautiful relationship. Even though I'm new to the industry, I enjoy helping others. Hopefully I can pass on information as well as recieve it that will boost our profession.

While doing market research for our new virtual assistant business, we came across Amber Riviere's Virtual Brown Bag podcast from her website, Agent Retriever.  After contacting Amber to discuss her podcast and the real estate business in general, she mentioned Active Rain and the benefits of membership.  I checked it out and have been back every day since for information, networking, and the chance to hone my blogging skills.  Amber is a great ambassador for Active Rain!

I was told about this site by my Broker who is always doing research on the net. We had been involved in the past with Brio Realty and their referral network. This appears to be like a "My Space for the real Estate Industry". Now I just need to find some time to start bolgging!
