For myself, sun light really sets my mood. So I wanted to leave the generally overcast and rainy Baltimore, MD area and find a sunny location. I still am amazed how many cloudless, blue sky days we have here each year. [And cloud-less nights where I can see thousands of stars like I used to when I was very small, before pollution overtook the northeast.]

But weather is more than the sun. I wanted to feel the seasons and I didn't want oppressive heat.

Obviously winters here are a lot gentler than Baltimore. However, I've found there's usually a hand-full of days where I could, but really don't feel like, going outside to exercise, probably because my "blood has thinned".

Most of my northeast friends think the summers here will be too hot. Sure, summer lasts longer but I find the daily temperatures comparable to those in back Baltimore but with a big positive difference... a cooling ocean breeze. I live just off the island on the peninsula which leads to the island. We have major rivers immediately to both our north and south. The ocean breezes run up the rivers bringing cooling breezes to the peninsula land mass just as it does on the island. I have found that if you live east of Yulee, the summer days are surprisingly pleasant.

Better yet, these same breezes disburse many rain storms that are headed into this area. Often the on-coming rain systems (usually coming from the south west) actually stop [disappear] about 8 miles west of here around I-95. The opposing ocean breezes cause enough sheer to stop the rain. Often it's raining both 15 miles north and south of us, but we have rain-free skies. Think I'm kidding? Come down and experience it.

So the the micro weather system we enjoy here is both very unusual and very friendly.
