Yesterday I slept approximately 18 hours in a 24 hour period...I was aching all over..I had the chills..I felt pain everywhere and throughout my body...I thought I had a severe flu bug and I probably did.

Sunday I was treated to a full spa day..which included a  total body massage..luxurious...enjoyable until I got sick.

The masseuse warned me to drink plenty of water..wouldn't you know it...when I got home..all of a sudden I felt horrible..I ached all over... I felt miserable...I begged my husband please put me out of my misery...

The big flu bug got me!

For a 24 hour period..I slept and popped Tylenol like there was no tomorrow...I couldn't eat..I was too exhausted..and my body hurt all over.  But all I could hear was the masseuse talking to me...and I drank..water..until I was swimming.

Voices were too loud..the phone...no way!  The only thing I did yesterday was email Lysa to tell her I would be in late...needless to say I slept and never made it in.

There was a time in my life I relied on massage therapy because of an injury..and after every one of those sessions..I would get what I thought was a flu bug..but I was detoxing...

Does this happen to you?

Today I am back to myself once again...and I feel revitalized..not sure if it was the massage..or the sleep. I can't say I feel perfect...but I feel so much better....I started my morning with a tall glass of H2O.

It may not be a problem next time..I've increased my H2O consumption not just because of the darn flu bug..but because our bodies need it!

Do you drink your quota of water each day?  If not....stop reading this and go drink a glass of water!

It's 22 degrees outside so I'm going to have to drink warm water. After I have more coffee. Glad you are feeling better. I've never had the detox effect from a good massage, but I have done a liquid/juice detox and felt terrific! XXOO

One thing learned from an old pitcher for the Yankees..Tommy John...he used to drink 6 large glasses of water and then run laps around the stadium a few hours before he pitched...it re hydrated his body...lots of water is good but lots of firewater is bad as you know:)

Hi Midori,

Oh the days of a good massage.  I miss them.  Yes, but I do remember my massage therapist always telling me that I would be sore and to drink plenty of water afterwards to rinse out all of the impurities that she just broke up in my body.  Yes, drinking plenty of water is very important and I probably do not drink enough.  Thank you for the reminder.

Midori - I am so guilty of not drinking enough water.  I am a Pepsi freak.  First thing in the morning, rather than coffee and liquid caffeine all day.  I need to drink more water too.  Glad you're feeling better.

Water is a good thing...and here are some other ideas...if the flu does get you...go for the Gatorade...it is the best at hydration....and that is what you need...combined with tylenol and rest...a good thing...stay away from too much caffiene...it de-hydrates you....and I keep zip locks of slices of lemon and lime in the freezer to "spice up" the huge water bottles I carry everywhere.,..good luck and good health !

Midori- Good to see that you are back and running again. I love my Ormond Beach water straight from the tap, but it's not quite so tasty in MD.

Living in the desert, I carry water with me ALL the time.  If I forget it, I feel naked like when I forget my cell phone!

I remember the sickest I got was after a massage because your toxins get moved around in your body.

I am glad you are feeling better and realize that water is our friend :)

Midori - I love water!  I am always with a bottle by my side.  I drink more than the recommended 8 glasses per day...  If I don't get my water, I feel tired, hungry and bloated.  I know, over sharing!  I'm glad you are back on your feet.

Midori~I was just having this same conversation with someone else this morning. Now that it's a bit colder out, I find that I am drinking more coffee, which has the reverse effect....here I go, off to the water cooler! Thanks for the reminder!

Hi Midori,

Glad you are feeling better. With the weather cooling down we can get the bug real quick. As for water consumption, I am the worst. I really need to heed your forewarning and start drinking more.

Hey Midori,

I learned my lesson about proper hydration on an 80 mile 8 person relay run across southern Illinois. I was smart, and took heed of the warnings my teammates offered me regarding proper water intake.  However, I saw more than one competitor succumb to the horrible consequences brought on by dehydration!

Yes, my friend Liz and I got a massage a few months ago when we were in Costa Rica and she was drinking water like crazy and told me why.  I had never heard of that.  Based on your story, I guess she was right.  Next time I will heed your warning...oops..I know now, I will start drinking more water now!  I am a coffee and ice tea person, but I guess it is not the same.
